6 Anime Like Seitokaichou ni Chuukoku (Hey, Class President!) [Recommendations]

Seitokaichou ni Chuukoku follows the lives of two very different high school boys who, despite their initial denial, end up falling for each other. While being a pretty cute story of guys trying to sort out their feelings and gauge how the other feels about them, it’s also got a lot of action! Chiga is a beautiful man who seems to catch people’s eye despite is pretty horrid personality. Kokusai is a simple, honest, and forgiving individual that’s too trusting for his own good. The two definitely care for each other as friends, but when they start finding themselves attracted to one another, they start over-analyzing everything they do. Once they see the signs… it’s go time!

One of the appeals of OVAs (original video animation) is that, as they are intended to be released immediately to video/DVD and not on TV, they can get away with more intimate displays without being entirely about the sex. For those of us who are a little pervy but still want to be romanced, here are 6 anime like Seitokaichou ni Chuukoku!

1. Haru wo Daite Ita (Embracing Love)

  • Episodes: 2
  • Aired: March 2005 – May 2005

Haru wo Daite Ita is an unconventional story of two adult video actors who aspire to break out of that genre into more mainstream media. Iwaki looks down on less-experienced actor Katou, who snubs the older man who is embarrassed by his AV roots. Being surrounded constantly by false emotions and insincere actions is not the most supportive environment for love, so Iwaki’s heart is closed off from the idea. However, when Katou decides on something, he will never stop fighting. The two are forced into a seriously volatile situation when work and pleasure are totally merged!

This is the most serious choice on our list, but that’s not to say it doesn’t have its similarities to Seitokaichou ni Chuukoku! In Haru, a lot of the first episode focuses on the two overcoming their feelings of contempt for the other, while in Seitokaichou, Kokusai and Chiga’s initial contempt is seen through a flashback. Chiga and Iwaki are similar in that they are cold and closed off and are terrible at communicating how they really feel. While both Chiga and Katou are quite aggressive in their physical advances, they take care to see if their partner really doesn’t enjoy it, as bringing themselves closer is their ultimate goal. They take the time to notice their partners' reactions and are very selfish anytime their lover shows any concern for someone else. The way Chiga and Katou touch their partners shows their desire to make their lovers feel good rather than satisfy their own carnal desires. While Kokusai and Iwaki are initially hesitant, you can see the change as pleasure takes over and they are fully engaged!

2. Ikoku Irokoi Romantan

  • Episodes: 2
  • Aired: Dec. 2007 – Oct. 2008

Ranmaru has been forced to marry in order to keep his yakuza family strong and united. Faced with constant nagging and occasional violent outbursts from his wife Kaoru, Ranmaru is not looking forward to their honeymoon in Italy. That changes when he meets Al, who has an obsession and appreciation for Japanese culture. Ranmaru is Al’s ideal man, and the romantic Italian hits it off with the head-strong son of a yakuza boss. While no man can overtake Ranmaru in a fight, Al sweeps him away in love!

Ranmaru is a very imposing, almost scary character much like Iwaki. They both are slow to warm up and have an air of importance around them, yet when faced with their lovers they reveal a gentler, fragile side. The dynamic of their relationship is somewhat similar while the setting is very different. The yakuza lord’s son and boat captain are quite unlike our student council members, but they both start off as friends who understand each other better than anyone before their relationship evolves physically. Both Al and Chiga are eager to touch their partners but draw the line at taking advantage of them when they’re sleeping. Both Ikoku and Seitokaichou are quite romantic without sacrificing action!

3. Kirepapa

  • Episodes: 2
  • Aired: Jan. 2008 - Nov. 2008

Chisato, an accomplished, handsome 35-year-old writer, won’t let anyone get close to his son, Riju. Chisato is certain that Riju’s friends only want to trick him and take advantage of him, which is why he can’t stand the tenacious Shunsuke who in 4 years is the only one who hasn’t been pushed away. When a certain secret is revealed, Chisato learns that he needn't be worried about his son, and should be more worried for himself!

We have similar characters between the two OVAs, Kirepapa’s Chisato and Seitokaichou’s Chiga are rude and standoffish to nearly everyone. Shunsuke and Kokusai on the other hand, attract others to them with their caring natures. Both stories show how consent and desire are important to the semes (those on top) despite them desperately wanting to be intimate with the objects of their affection. Both Chisato and Kokusai are the victims of a certain crime, which makes Shunsuke and Chisato forget their own physical desires and immediately try to get justice for their hurt partner. In both shows, once they get down to it, everyone is in for a good time!

4. Sex Pistols

  • Episodes: 2
  • Aired: March 2010 – April 2011

Norio is a young high school boy who has to deal with all the things a regular student worries about… and more! He learns he is what’s called a madararui, a human descended from another species than monkeys. Madararui can sense other madararui and their souls take the shape of their animal, transforming their bodies. Usually, a madararui can control this, but Norio has to undergo special training to keep his transformations under control so he can actually have a sex life! Every time Norio’s boyfriend Kunimasa touches him, he transforms into a cat… Kunimasa has a madararui brother as well who hates men and does his best to keep Shiro, a mere human male, at arm’s length. Shiro keeps more than just his feelings a secret from Yonekuni in order to keep him from hating Shiro, but just how long can he keep it up?

Sex Pistols features 3 couples, kind of like Strawberry Panic in how they all interact in each other’s lives. Norio and Kunimasa love each other and are in a relationship at the beginning of the show, but have to work around the awkwardness of intimacy. One of the other main characters, Yonekuni, is similar to Chiga in that they are both cold, blond playboys interested in only girls until they settle down with their gay lovers. While Yonekuni is much more aggressive than Chiga and downright abusive until the end, once he ends up having sex, he shows a very concerned side of himself.

5. Tight-rope

  • Episodes: 2
  • Aired: May 2012 – June 2012

Naoki doesn’t understand why Ryuunosuke doesn’t have more friends, as being the son of a yakuza boss has never intimidated Naoki. He sees Ryuunosuke for the loyal idiot he is. Perhaps that’s why he fell for Ryuunosuke! Ryuunosuke cares little for his family’s reputation or becoming the next boss, instead only caring about Naoki… and his body! Love is hard to protect when any relationship can be used against you, and their bond will be tested by those hoping to destroy Ryuunosuke’s family.

Tight-rope has less boy-on-boy screen time, but they do a good job of communicating their feelings and we’re at least given a kiss or emotional embrace every few scenes. In both shows, the main characters have more mutual feelings than the usual dynamic of one party having to try to convince the other. Both couples lack experience in homosexual sex, but they are willing to experiment as they quite enjoy physical contact from their lover. It’s rare for both people in a couple to be easily flustered as a more popular dynamic is the cool guy/shy guy, but that’s something Tight-rope and Seitokaichou both share.

6. Love Stage!! OVA

  • Episodes: 1
  • Aired: Nov. 2014

Izumi and Ryouma’s relationship is going very well! They enjoy their own successes and get along swimmingly… but when Ryouma has his first free day in a long time and wants to take Izumi on a date, Izumi is secretly reluctant! He brings his brother and manager along pretending it’s against his will, much to Ryouma’s disappointment. While Izumi is enjoying their supervised time together, he’s terrified of being alone with Ryouma. When it's revealed why, it threatens their very relationship! Will these two lovers be able to stay together in spite of any obstacle?

The Love Stage!! OVA takes place in the middle of Ryouma and Izumi’s relationship, so we don’t see the transformation into lovers that Seitokaichou has. However, their relationship dynamics are very similar, with both couples feeling strongly for each other and being mutually flustered by their partners. The sex in Love Stage is off-camera, unlike Seitokaichou, but the lead-up and aftermath offer a lot of dialogue to get the watcher's imaginations going! Both OVAs feature very caring semes, more concerned with making their partner feel good than the often portrayed inability to control their desires. You won’t have to worry about guilty pleasure with either of these shows~.

Final Thoughts

Seitokaichou ni Chuukoku is a beautiful combination of erotic and adorable. While sometimes we can be satisfied with just a kiss, often times we like a little more excitement without compromising the cuteness of first love or overcoming one's shyness. Sometimes we don't have the time to sit through a whole series just to see a little something at the end, which makes OVAs preferable when you find yourself pressed for time but are really in the mood for some BL. Hopefully, you enjoyed this list, and if you can think of other cute but suggestive titles, please mention them in the comments!

Hey friends! I reside in Georgia and use my degree in Japanese primarily to (barely) read doujinshi that hasn’t been translated. Beyond deciding who is best girl in whatever I happen to be watching, I really enjoy ballroom dancing, reading, crying over dating sims, karaoke, and being surrounded by beautiful things~ (You know, scenery, décor, boys, stuff like that). I also love talking about passions with others!
