Jade Empire removes the focus on just swords and includes the ability to choose from one of several fighting styles that your character can possess. Diablo III is yet another great RPG title from developer Blizzard Entertainment. Seriously folks, we’ve had some of us here at Honey’s Anime spend hundreds of hours on Diablo III and still play to this day thanks to constant updates and a recently released class in the form of the necromancer, thus why we’re sure you’ll love this title as much as we do.

4. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone

  • System/Platform: PC, PS2, Xbox
  • Publisher: Atari
  • Developer: Stormfront Studios, Zono Inc.
  • Release Date: Nov 16, 2004

Three strangers are about to cross paths when they stumble upon an odd artifact known as the Demon Stone. Once two beings known as Ygorl and Caminus were imprisoned with the Stone to prevent chaos but now they are free once more. The three strangers feel responsible for this event and decide to combine their skills to imprison the beings once more. However, this quest will test their skills and if they fail their quest, the world will forever be altered…

Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone is easily one of the coolest RPGs we played in the Forgotten Realms. Instead of only being able to play one of the heroes in the game you can actually control them all. Players will need to use their various powers to take down various enemies and deal with challenges along the way. The bosses of Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone are tough and players will need to utilize the heroes to have a chance at beating them. Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone might be more of a hack and slash title and less RPG focused as Baldur’s Gate but with a deep lore and plenty of similar themes, we know you’ll be engrossed in this magical tale just as much as we were back in 2004.

5. Pillars of Eternity

  • System/Platform: PC, OS X, Xbox One, PS4
  • Publisher: Paradox Interactive
  • Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
  • Release Date: Mar 26, 2015

In the world Eora magic has advanced largely but so has the means of figuring out how the soul works. Society has found the means of using a power that causes humans to be called Awakened and retain their memories from past lives. However, as you are about to become one of these Awakened beings and what is referred to as The Watcher—a being who is able to read other souls as well as their own—you will learn why so many still hate this power. As an Awakened you will find that you are cursed to never be able to sleep and have constant visions that hit you randomly. Over time this will cause your mind to be driven to madness and now you must find some means of curing this curse.

Pillars of Eternity from developer Obsidian Entertainment is a pretty interesting story with some interesting ideas. Players will create their character and then enter into a large world filled with areas to explore and tons of quests to take. Pillars of Eternity gives players a breath of fresh air in the RPG elements thanks to different means of gameplay focused mechanics. No experience is gained from defeating enemies and that means you don’t have to constantly kill enemies left and right to level up, only quests reward you with experience. Players can rely on stealth or avoiding enemies with varying results. Pillars of Eternity truly harkens to what we loved about the Baldur’s Gate series—fans and even other reviewers have said the same—and thus we ourselves feel it was a must have on our list of 6 Games Like Baldur’s Gate.

6. The Bard’s Tale

  • System/Platform: PS2, Xbox, PC, iOS, OS X, Android
  • Publisher: InXile Entertainment
  • Developer: InXile Entertainment
  • Release Date: Oct 26, 2004

Usually heroes should be warriors who shine with righteous like actions and motives. However, in The Bard’s Tale you’re anything but those elements. Players will take control of The Bard who finds questing a means to get money and possibly ladies. However, one day he is asked to join a cult who need to save a princess by the name of Caleigh. The Bard is about to face a true challenge for the first time in his life but will he rise to the challenge or let the world burn and watch it with a beer in hand?

Baldur’s Gate is a serious RPG adventure with dark themes and an epic journey, then you have The Bard’s Tale which is about a Bard who is kind of a lazy dude. However, these games fans will say are very similar to one another in many ways and we here at Honey’s Anime fully agree with that. Players will need to control the Bard and choose either to be kind or snarky with lasting consequences based on either choice. We should also mention the narrator who seems to hate The Bard but his narration will be a pure treat to those who want their adventure to be a bit less serious and more mature. If you love the action of Baldur’s Gate but really thought it needed to have a more comedic overture, than we fully recommend The Bard’s Tale.
