6 Manga Like Ouran High School Host Club [Recommendations]

INTRODUCTION

In 2002, Bisco Hatori started an amazing series: Ouran Koukou Host Club! As probably all of you already know, this is a shoujo manga full of comedy. Not only comedy is what makes Ouran Koukou Host Club so popular and so appreciated, but also this manga is also some sort of parody of all those harem, boys love, and shoujo manga out there. With a cute art style, and a range of funny and interesting characters, Ouran Koukou Host Club also had an anime adaptation in 2006. It is pointless to mention how the anime version, too, gained a huge following!

The story revolves around Haruhi Fujioka, a poor student on a scholarship attending the Ouran High School, which is an academy for rich kids. In this elite school, there's a club called “Host Club”, where six beautiful, bored boys entertain girls. It goes without saying: our protagonist is not in the less interested in the club... Until she is mistaken for a boy and forced to work for it, to repay her debt after she broke a valuable vase in the club room! These are the premises for this amazingly funny shoujo manga.

In this list, we tried to mention six manga as amusing and entertaining as Ouran Koukou Host Club, so stick with us until the end!

Similar Manga to Ouran Koukou Host Club / Similar Manga to Ouran High School Host Club

1. Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club (My Heavenly Hockey Club)

  • Mangaka: Morinaga, Ai
  • Genre: Comedy, Harem, Romance, School life, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 14
  • Published: 2005 – 2010

Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club revolves around Hana Suzuki. This high school girl loves eating and sleeping above everything else. Well, how can we blame her? One day, though, Izumi Oda – one of her classmates – tries to persuade her to join the hockey club. Hana couldn't care less! She doesn't care for handsome boys, she prefers eating over dates! When Izumi mentions field trips in fancy resorts, and promises good food, though, Hana starts to change her mind... The problems will arise when she'll have to wake up early, and give her best. This is how the comedy begins!

Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club and Ouran Koukou Host Club have a remarkably similar setup. They are both reverse-harem shoujo manga, full of comedy. Both the protagonists, Hana and Haruhi, aren't exactly girly: they're far from being the typical shoujo heroine. In Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club, Hana is forced to join the club by Izumi, who is a super rich second year. The exact same thing happens to Haruhi, who is forced to join the club by Tamaki, in order to repay her debt. What's more, in both these manga there are twins, rich guys and crazy gags. If you liked Ouran Koukou Host Club, you are bound to like Gokuraku Seishun Hockey Club, as they share the same vibes!

2. Beauty Pop

  • Mangaka: Arai, Kiyoko
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School life, Shoujo, Slice of life
  • Volumes: 10
  • Published: September 2003 – February 2008

Beauty Pop depicts Kiri Koshiba's life. She is a talented hairstylist, but even so she isn't interested in pursuing fame from her gift. Three talented boys attending Kiri's same school, though, have one big dream: to become the best makeover team in Japan. That's why they absolutely want Kiri in their “Scissors Project”. Kiri repeatedly tries to step back from their project, but it seems like that is exactly her calling...

Beauty Pop and Ouran Koukou Host Club are both shoujo manga with hints of reverse-harem. Kiri and Haruhi share the same personality, as they are both stoic and potentially uninterested in the club they both are forced to join. Even the other characters share some similarities; the Host Club members and the Scissors Project members are beautiful, rich boys trying to please girls by keeping them company or giving them a brand-new outward appearance. If we add up that Beauty Pop and Ouran Koukou Host Club share a similar art style, and funny twists, as well, you have the guarantee that you'll like Beauty Pop all the same!

3. Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana-Kimi: For You in Full Blossom)

  • Mangaka: Nakajo, Hisaya
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Gender Bender, Harem, Romance, School life, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 23
  • Published: August 1996 – August 2006

Mizuki is a Japanese-American track-and-field star. She managed to transfer to a high school in Japan, but it's not as easy as it seems. In fact, Mizuki just wanted to follow her idol: Izumi Sano, the high jumper. In order to stay close to him, she transferred to an all-boys school, disguised as a boy. A twist of fate brings Mizuki and Izumi to be not only classmates, but roommates, as well. That's when the problems arise, and Mizuki will have to be careful wherever she goes, or her secret will be out in no time!

Here's another reverse-harem shoujo manga, sharing with Ouran Koukou Host Club a lot of traits. In fact, in Hanazakari no Kimitachi e, exactly like in Ouran Koukou, we find two girls who disguise themselves as boys. Mizuki and Haruhi share the same kind of personality: both of them are straightforward, and seemingly oblivious of the feelings of affection from the guys surrounding them. What's more, we find in both these stories a love triangle and extremely handsome male characters. Although Hanazakari no Kimitachi e is more romance-oriented than Ouran Koukou Host Club, it's not a stretch to say that they can be considered as siblings... So go catch up!

4. Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! (Class President is a Maid!)

  • Mangaka: Fujiwara, Hiro
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School life, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 18
  • Published: December 2005 – September 2013

Misaki Ayuzawa attends a former all-boys high school. As the President of Student Council, she has one big goal: to try to attract more female students. She is a committed feminist, and she really can't tolerate some male students' behaviors. The strong-willed Misaki, though, has a secret: she works part-time in a maid cafe. Takumi Usui, the most handsome and popular boy in the school, discovers the truth, and that's when trouble knocks to Misaki's door!

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! and Ouran Koukou Host Club are non-conventional shoujo manga with a heroine who is totally indifferent to the boys' affection. Both these series have a lot of other sub-plots that manage to connect all the other characters. And the punishment her father told her about, turns out to be something she never could've expected!

Barajou no Kiss and Ouran Koukou Host Club share the same vibes, even though not exactly the same plot. They're both reverse-harem shoujo manga, so both Anis and Haruhi are surrounded by beautiful boys. In both these series there are plot twists leading to very humorous events that will make you crack up.
