1. Naruto

  • Episodes: 220
  • Aired: October 3, 2002 - February 8, 2007

Naruto is one of Jump's most popular global franchises due to its great story and epic adventures. A huge demon known as Nine-Tails attacks the local village and leaves a trail of destruction behind. To put a stop to the onslaught and save what remained of the village, the fourth hokage sacrificed his own life and sealed Nine-Tails inside the newborn Naruto. The story continues as we follow Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja that is constantly searching for recognition, and has dreams to become the top hokage in order to put a stop to all evil and become a strong leader for everyone.

If there is one thing that these two main characters share is an extreme loyalty to their friends. The moral behind their action packed adventures is that you can't truly enjoy any experience without the help and encouragement from those around you. Friendship is such an important aspect of all of the anime on our list, but Naruto really emphasizes it a lot throughout the story in a major way. You can't help but cheer for everyone as you watch them battle it out, while always making sure that everyone is on even ground.

2. Groove Adventure Rave [Rave Master]

  • Episodes: 51
  • Aired: October 13, 2001 - September 28, 2002

Many of us here at Honey's Anime took a liking to Rave Master and so we thought it would make a great piece in our wonderful puzzle of anime which relate to teamwork and adventure. A war had ensued between the forces of dark and light for stones known as Dark Brings, which contain immense power well beyond human ability. In order to seal the powerful darkness, a lone swordsman used the power of Holy Rave to destroy the source of the Dark Brings. This resulted in an explosion known as Overdrive, which destroyed a large chunk of the world, leaving fragments of Rave everywhere. Haru has inherited both the Rave and its guardian, Plue, making him the next Rave Master. With the aid of Elie and a drifter blacksmith by the name of Musica, Haru must scour the world in search of the scattered Rave Stones and put an end to the Dark Brings and Demon Card for good.

Fairy Tail and Rave Master share a great similarity in that they were both created by the same Mangaka, who poured his heart and soul into Rave Master. Natsu and Haru are very alike where they inherit a new power that allows them to fend off enemies, along with the help of team mates to ensure victory. We can’t forget that Plue shows up in both Rave Master and Fairy Tail. Elie is extremely determined to find out more about Rave fragments, and much like Lucy they both have a sharp awareness of their surroundings, using their level-headed approach to solve puzzles along the way. The similarities just don’t end.

Following in the footsteps of his childhood hero, Luffy and the wide cast of comrades that travel alongside him experience crazy adventures, while uncovering dark mysteries and battling strong enemies along the way.

We can't help but stress the importance of having friends close by in order to keep you grounded. Luffy is surrounded by a large group of individuals, all of which have their own unique characteristics that make it such a blast to watch. Natsu and his team are very much the same, where there's never a time that anyone is alone. Fairy Tail, the guild that has found its way inside of our hearts and our imaginations – but what else out there resembles it while we wait for the new episodes? That’s what I would like to take the time to tell you today, because as we all know Fairy Tail is more than just “some shounen show.”

With so much of an adventure and more than enough action, this is one of those shows that carries on the big adventure through more than just the standard 12-14 episodes and completely wraps us in its folds!

Similar Anime to Fairy Tail

1. One Piece

  • Episodes: 676 (Ongoing)
  • Aired: Oct 20, 1999 – Currently Airing

It’s a pirate’s life for me! Monkey D. Luffy is a pirate and always will be a pirate, with a sole mission in life: to become the Pirate King. Luckily (and also unfortunately) for him, he ate the Gum-Gum Devil Fruit which caused his entire body to turn gain rubber like qualities; although the downside is anyone who eats the fruit can no longer swim in the sea. This makes it pretty bad luck for a pirate, you know, being on the sea and all!

This is just like Fairy Tail in terms of adventure; the entire premise of the show is based on having a grand adventure! One Piece is definitely something to check out if you have yet to find something to fill your adventurers void!

2. Rave Master (Japanese: Groove Adventure Rave)

  • Episodes: 51
  • Aired: Oct 13, 2001 – Sep 28, 2002

Darkbring will to destroy the world if it’s not stopped, and the only way to do so is by collecting all the Rave Stones. Fifty years ago Darkbringer caused what is now known as “Overdrive,” the biggest explosion the world has ever seen, subsequently destroying 1/10 of it.

While this does seem like your average “collect them all to get stronger” anime, which it kind of is, there’s a full story behind that which is what makes it great. I won’t spoil anything for you because it’s something you just need to see to understand, but Haru Glory is one of my favorite main characters of any adventure anime!

3. Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: Oct 7, 2012 – Mar 31, 2013

Remember Aladdin, and how he found the magical lamp that he used to save Princess Jasmine from the evil clutches of the dark sorcerer Jafar? Well this has nothing to do with that! The main character (or one of) is named Aladdin, except now he is the genie; although there is no magical lamp for him.

In the middle-ages on another world, Aladdin and Prince Alibaba travel around the world clearing “dungeons,” giant spires strewn about the land. At the end of each dungeon is a being of immense power that will grant the one who cleared it with a magical item!

This show goes beyond adventure, especially this season. With the friends travelling to all different lands to get stronger and Aladdin himself joining the country of magic (undercover), there’s more excitement packed into this little package than you would ever expect!

4. Air Gear

  • Episodes: 25
  • Aired: Apr 5, 2006 – Sep 27, 2006

What would you do if your skates had little thrusters on them? If the answer wasn’t “try to fly” then this may not be the show for you! Minami didn’t really want to try riding Air Treck seriously, not until he got completely destroyed by a gang. After having his butt handed to him completely, he found a new pair of skates with a bunch of stickers from a different gang.

Throughout the show he makes friends, gets into territory battles and has one of the best adventures I’ve ever seen. Out of all the anime I’ve seen, this is one story that is not only more believable than the rest, but goes exactly with my own wish to fly. The story is fantastic, the animation and sequencing are top notch and the comedy is also highly entertaining!

5. Black Blood Brothers

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Sep 8, 2006 – Nov 24, 2006

Ten years ago, the Holy War shook the folds of Hong Kong and almost eradicating the Kowloon Children entirely. Jirou and Kotarou are the last of the Old Bloods and very last descendants of an elite clan of Vampire. Black Bloods are the new age vampires, comparatively young and weak when compared to the Old Blood and humans themselves Red Bloods.

The Kowloon Children are seeking to infiltrate the Special Zone, a place Black Bloods are not able to enter unless specifically invited. After Kotarou gets kidnapped, it’s up to Jirou to save the Red Bloods and rescue his little brother!

Overall this is an amazing anime to see, definitely fun from start to finish. If you’re in the mood for something action packed this is one you don’t want to miss, by any means!

6. Home Tutor Hitman Reborn! (Japanese: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!)

  • Episodes: 203
  • Aired: Oct 7, 2006 – Sep 25, 2010

Sawada Tsunayoshi is just an ordinary kid, with an ordinary life and is ordinarily in love with a girl in his class. What’s not very ordinary is that he’s the next head of house to his Mafia family! The current head decides it’s about time for him to retire, and thus has to prepare the next head for the life of a Mafioso. He decides to accomplish this by hiring Reborn, an infamous hitman.

If you’re looking for laughs and a good bit of fighting, Home Tutor Hitman Reborn! is one of your best bets! The animation is well done and it’s overall an amazing anime to get into.

So if you’re looking for an action-comedy or another adventure to fill the space between the new episodes, there’s plenty out there to take up your time! Feel free to mention in the comments section below your thoughts and what shows you think didn’t make it to the list, but should have!
