The archangel Lucifer was cast out from heaven by God for her pride and rebellious ways. Lucifer was sent to Hell and she encounters the Seven Deadly Sins or the Seven Demon Kings of Hell. During Lucifer’s struggle in Hell, she is cursed by one of the Sins and retreated to the human world where she meets a young girl named Maria. Against Maria’s will, she became Lucifer’s servant and together with a demon named Levi, Lucifer must do battle against the demon kings and rid herself of a curse.

Not to be confused with Nanatsu no Taizai (The Seven Deadly Sins), Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai (Seven Mortal Sins) is heavily focused on ecchi fanservice featuring an all-female cast with just enough story to keep things going and give reasons to show off more boobs and yuri shenanigans. Pretty normal stuff. Yes, Sin is very heavy on fanservice that it’s targeted to a very specific hardcore crowd. And if you’re part of this crowd and want to see similar shows, then you’ve come to the right place!

So what are the things to look out for similar anime? Sin is focused on yuri fanservice over the story, the cast of main characters are all female, and these characters are personifications of something, and among other things like the settings is set in a fantasy world, the girls are fighters, etc. It’s a very specific list, but it’s still doable because, well, we just listed 6 similar anime… Anyway, let’s start committing sins!

Similar Anime to Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai

1. Sengoku Otome: Momoiro Paradox (Battle Girls: Time Paradox)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: April 2011-June 2011

Hideo Yoshino is your typical average schoolgirl who one day was transported back in time while praying at a local shrine to help her with her upcoming test. She is sent back to the Sengoku Period when Japan was in constant conflict. During this time, Yoshino met one of the of the three warlords of that time, Oda Nobunaga. However, there is something amiss: Oda Nobunaga and the entire population are all women.

Let’s start the list with something light.

The Sengoku Period is perhaps the most popular period with lots of anime adaptations ranging from absurd fantasy with high-flying action like Sengoku Basara to a more grounded, more accurate portrayal of the era but funny Hyouge Mono. Sengoku Otome is on the absurd fantasy side with all of the famous figures like Oda Nobunaga, Date Masamune, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. And just like Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai, Sengoku personified all of the characters as lovely young women with some wearing revealing clothing. In fact, every human in the alternate Sengoku era are all female. Lastly, the ecchi is very light and the closest boob shots you can find is in the onsen scene, but the yuri fanservice is plentiful and is part of the story, surprisingly.

2 . Koihime†Musou

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2008-September 2008

Loosely based on the popular classic novel, Koihime Musou tells the story of a group of warriors fighting for justice and freedom of the land. The story starts with Kan’u Unchou, a feared bandit hunter travelling the land fighting any wrong-doers she sees. On her way to a small town, Kan’u meets RinRin, a girl with the same tragic past as her.

Koihime Musou is essentially the same as Sengoku Otome featuring an all-female cast of characters based on the classic Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. And just like Sin, the characters of Koihime Musou are female personifications of the characters in the novels with yuri elements. It’s not really a surprise to see yuri fanservice in these shows because of the cast are all-female, then you’ll most likely get some yuri moments. Koihime Musou is another light yuri with a few boob shots and onsen scenes and it’s a good choice if you want something lighter than Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai.

3. Senran Kagura (Senran Kagura Ninja Flash)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: January 2013-March 2013

The shinobi are agents served under feudal lords in ancient Japan. They’re professional spies, saboteurs, and assassins lurking within shadows to take out their targets. In the modern age, the shinobi lives on doing the same things their predecessors did, while fighting evil. Behind the walls of the prestigious Hanzo Academy lies a secret training course for the shinobi. Asuka, an upbeat young girl is one of the budding shinobi training in Hanzo Academy and together with her friends, they train hard and be prepared for what’s lurking ahead.

Next on the list is about ninjas in the modern era and coincidentally, they’re all female characters with the habit of tearing their clothes off during battles. It’s obvious you get damage during battles, but not so much in Senran Kagura where fewer clothes mean more, uh, “advantages” in battle. These are pretty much what makes this anime similar to Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai, but with more characters fighting, but less lewd. Japanese war generals of Sengoku Otome, to the Chinese war generals in Koihime Musou, Senran Kagura sets itself apart by focusing more on ninjas in the modern age.

4. Bikini Warriors

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2015-September 2015

In a world ravaged by evil and monsters, everything in the hands of four powerful heroes. With their powerful weapons and magic, the four heroes Fighter, Paladin, Mage and the Dark Elf sets out to save the world! Unfortunately, the heroes are broke and can’t even find a place to spend the night. Apparently, these brave heroes forgot to level up their Luck and Item Discovery stats.

We’re now halfway on our list and this time let’s get down and real dirty with the last 3 entries.

If you take a typical 25-minute ecchi anime, strip off the story, character development, and other stuff except the ecchi, you’ll basically get a typical 4-minute episode of Bikini Warriors. You’ll immediately know what you’re getting yourself into once you watched the first few seconds into episode 01 because boobs and skin will be the only thing you’ll see. To its credit though, Bikini Warriors is funny poking fun at typical RPG tropes like bikini armor offering more protection than normal armor, characters still look the same despite wearing new armor pieces, barging into houses and loot their valuables and so on.

Busty scantily-clad main characters with lots of lewd moments in Bikini Warriors are similar to Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai, but what makes these two series so similar is they’re both come from a line of figurines by Hobby Japan. The purpose of these shows, for the most part, is to advertise Hobby Japan’s a huge line of sexy female figurines, and the best way to get exposure is through anime.

5. Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2015-December 2015

Tokomome Mamori is a special kind of girl who was transferred to a mysterious island chain in the middle of the ocean in the most unconventional way. The young castaway was suddenly attacked by the island inhabitants, but then was luckily saved by a girl named Shikishima Mirei. As their assailants pressed on with their attack, Mirei suddenly kissed Mamori, and Mamori turns into a sword!

Imagine you’re torpedoed to an unknown island filled nothing but women who are out to either kill you, be friends with you or sexually arouse you and become their tools for destruction. This is Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid in a nutshell. The story itself is very okay, but the biggest selling point of Valkyrie Drive is the heavy fanservice that is very borderline hentai. You see boobs, lots of skin, kissing, groping and exchanging of bodily fluids. The same can be said to Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai with an all-female cast with fanservice that is borderline hentai. If you watched Sin solely for the lewd, then you’ll feel comfortable and right at home with Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid.

6. Queen's Blade: Rurou no Senshi (Queen's Blade: The Exiled Virgin)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2009-June 2009

The Queen’s Blade tournament is held every four years to determine the most beautiful and powerful Queen. Enter Leina Vance, the heiress of the Vance Family and next in line to the throne is seeking the title of Queen. As she travels the land of Gainos, she meets other warriors from various lands also seeking the title.

Think of any perverse fetish you could think of? Got one? Chances are it’s in the anime as a female character in Queen’s Blade. If Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai is the female personification of the seven mortal sins of man, Queen’s Blade is the female personification of every fetish out there. Big-breasted warrior girls with revealing armor, the obsessive little sister, big-breasted shrine maidens, ultra-breasted exhibitionist nuns, panty-less elves, big-breasted girl coated in icky goo, and so on. However the biggest similarities between Queen’s Blade and Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai is, like Bikini Warriors, they’re all from Hobby Japan. Yes, these anime is made to sell you their expensive figurines to collect and to, uh, you know, apply hot glue.

Final Thoughts

Anime adaptations are used effectively to advertise a long-running manga series, a series of toys, trading cards, video games, and figurines. Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai was made solely to advertise the figurines and nothing more. The fanservice you see are just easy ways of attracting people and convince them to empty their wallets. There’s no shame in this and it’s a good marketing tactic, but you can still enjoy the anime without paying a single cent for a figurine.

Though it’s very hard to not think of it because the seven mortal sins are a beautiful bunch of ladies. Their allure and to see them as additions to your collection is tempting. I guess it’s human nature to be enamoured by all things beautiful. Indeed, their beauty is a sin.

I've been an anime fan for as long as I can remember. Actually, anime is very much a part of me now for I have extended my reach beyond just watching them. I am a fansubber for more than 8 years now and contributed a lot to the anime community. Me and my group has translated shows, manga, drama CDs and doujinshi. Right now I'm learning Japanese so I can better serve the community and read interesting stuff about the Japanese culture as well.
