Synopsis

After a distaster in Japan, there were two geniuses who dreamt of the future. One is Umataro Tenma. The other is Hiroshi Ochanomizu. They do nothing but robot research day and night, Umataro dreaming of making a “god” with his hands, Hiroshi dreaming of making a “friend.” Thus their friendship gave birth to a robot, A106 (read A ten six). Will A106 become a “god” or “friend” as expected? The young genius duo will take a peek at the future.

The “future” with Atom and our “present” are connected by “Atom: The Beginning.”

Three Episode Impression

Atom: The Beginning, just like what it says in the title, is the start of robots prior to Astro Boy. It can be considered a prequel to the Astro Boy series. In the anime, you can see a younger versions of both Professor Ochanomizu and Umatarou Tenma, as they struggle on their early days of being researchers. With limited funds, they managed to create a prototype robot infused with the “Bewusstsein System” which acts as an “Ego-consciousness” for the robot at hand.

They even managed to incorporate into A106, their prototype robot, powerful piston arms and a hero-esque personality in hopes to turn it into a hero robot. The fruit of their efforts are A016 was able to respond and act before an incident during a parade went out of hand. The two young professors were overjoyed, but unfortunately they ran out of cash and money to keep their projects going. Will they be able to pull it off? Find out more in Atom: The Beginning.
