Ex Kyoani Director Yutaka Yamamoto Announces Crowdfunding For New Anime

What You Need to Know:

  • Yutaka Yamamoto, an animation director known for his work on Haruhi, Lucky Star, Black Rock Shooter, and more, has announced via his twitter that he has begun crowdfunding for a completely original anime project slated to be released sometime in 2018 titled Hakubo or Twilight.
  • No, don't worry, no sparkling vampires and bad acting will be present in this Twilight. But rather, this will feature the region that was devastated in the great quake of 2011 aka Fukushima. This is in-line with his other works that feature the embattled Touhoku region. The first was blossom, the second was Wake Up Girls (which is getting a new season this year), and now Hakubo. His goal in making this is to portay "A lifestyle which can be experienced by a girl anywhere. A life that can be lived anywhere. And, a love that could be anywhere." He has been planning this for over 20 years. But, let's talk about the money, or in this case, then yen that he is looking for.
  • He hopes to raise over 15 million yen (~$133,750) and it will run for another 63 days. The reward tiers start at 5000 yen (~$44.50) and go all the way up to 500,000 yen (~$4460.00). The rewards vary from autographed versions of the novel that he wrote to inspire this series, your name in the credits of the series, updates via email on the progress of the series, bus tours of the area that will be adapted into the series that he and the promoter for the series will go on in Iwaki city, and more. The promoter he has secured is seiyuu Kaori Fukuhara (Wake up Girls, Shinmai Maou no Testament, etc.), and the producer is going to be Kouji Wada. They have already raised almost 10% of their goal in one day, so there is a chance that this could easily succeed. If you are interested in learning more, be sure to head over to his crowdfunding page and give him some yen!

I am not saying he won't succeed as many other recent anime crowdfunding projects have succeeded, but if he is such a big name, why aren't studios climbing over each other to get him?
