9. Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records (Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor)

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Air Date: April 4, 2017

There is a well-known academy known simply as the School of Magical Arts in the Alezano Empire. Here students are on the forefront of learning some of the most advanced magic that the Empire has developed to date. There is one teacher though who has a penchant for showing up to class late, writing “study hall” on the blackboard, and then subsequently going to sleep. His name is Gren Reiders. Sistina Fiebell has had enough one day and challenges this lazy teacher to a duel. She packs quite a punch and emerges as the victor. Gren does not really seem to mind until one day when the school is rocked by a terrorist attack. Gren drops the farce to reveal his true powerful nature in front of his students when he throws himself in front of them growling “don’t you dare lay a hand on my students”. Thus his tale begins…

To be honest, and be sure to check out the five PVs that this series is teasing with, this looks like another Gakusen Toshi Asterisk, Hundred, or Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry. A male character who is clearly OP beyond his wildest dreams needs to protect the weaker girls around him. A tried and true formula, Rokudenashi seems to be going down the exact same path. We are not trashing this series by any means by making the connection, but rather that fans of the above-mentioned series will definitely want to check this one out. However, those looking for something different in this formula, don’t hold your breath.

8. Shumatsu Nani Shitemasu ka? Isogashii Desu ka? Sukutte Moratte Ii Desu ka? (What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?)

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Air Date: April 13, 2017

Do you like destroyed worlds where humans now have to live on their own and rebuild society but you don’t fully know what has happened right of the bat? Then SukaSuka may be for you. This drama, romance, fantasy anime follows humanity after it was crushed by mysterious supernatural creatures simply known as “Beasts”. Willem is a young man who wakes up one day after sleeping for hundreds of years. He finds that those who did survive live on islands in the sky away from the Beasts. Little girls known only as Leprechauns, are able to wield magical weapons that can defeat the beasts. So, Willem oddly somehow becomes their father and cares for the girls even though he has never been a father on his own. On this journey though, Willem will find out what humanity means, what is worth being there for, and what to protect.

SukaSuka right off the bat should be laughed at for its ridiculously long name. Moving on, this Fantasy/Drama/Romance anime seems like it could really go either way. We know that the leprechauns do not live long and have to fight. This means that he could send some out to fight a few times and then not realize that they are dying in battle till he has lost many that he cares for, or this will be a happy playtime anime. Our money is definitely on the first theory, so keep an eye out for it!

7. Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Air Date: April 7, 2017

Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel is actually a reinvention of this series made for the 10th Anniversary as a whole. It has had a few seasons before as well as a slew of OVAs. Third-year middle school students Meguru Amatsuki and Sumire Kisaragi one day discover a Hedgehog simply known as Miruku-chan who tells them that they have to become Twin Angels and fight evil. Ally of justice and upbeat Meguru and cool and slightly antisocial Sumire must now work together with their clashing personalities as they get to know each other better and defeat evil!

Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel is another one of those series that fans who enjoy it already will love. While this Fantasy/Mahou Shoujo series is not new to many anime fans, those who enjoy magical girls, transformations, hot and cold personalities will enjoy this too. The big thing to note about this series is actually the seiyuu. Three big named seiyuu will be lending their voices to the series. M.A.O. will be voicing Meguru, Ai Kayano will be voicing Sumire, and the queen of tsundere herself Rie Kugimiya will be voicing Miruku-can. Seiyuu fans, this is not a series to miss!

6. Gin no Guardian (The Silver Guardian)

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Air Date: April 1, 2017

Gin no Guardian is about the final successors who guard the power of God. They are simply known as “Guardians.”Suigin Riku is a high school student constantly working to fuel his lifestyle. He is not really good at anything other than gaming. Which, comes in handy when he needs them to save a girl! Rei Riku has been kidnapped and Suigin needs to save her. So, in order to do so, he dives on into another world where games are linked to reality to save Rei!

The story really sounds very similar to shows like Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko Janai to Omotta or even Log Horizon. It is a Chinese source anime and produced by Haoliners which can be a flag sometimes, but, it seems like Haoliners has some really big seiyuu that they have brought in to voice the characters, Jun Fukuyama will be voicing Suigin, and side characters Twin Star and Phoebe will be voiced by legends Ami Koshimizu and Nana Mizuki respectively. That is a definite plus for this series that is not very forthcoming with information. All in all, we would say to at least give the series a try out for a few episodes and see if the plot does not hook you!

5. Kyoukai no Rinne 3rd Season (RIN-NE)

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Airing: April 8, 2017

If you are not watching Rumiko Takahashi’s latest anime adaptation, what are you even doing with yourself?! Kyoukai no Rinne follows Sakura Mamiya who can see ghosts and spirits since she was a child. Then one day she meets the poor Shinigami known as Rinne Rokudou. Rinne is here on Earth to settle the affairs of spirits so that they can pass on it peace. Rinne has to help out Sakura more and more while also borrowing money from her, so for now, he has to stay on Earth. Good thing too that he likes Sakura! However, it’s not all smooth sailing as he is also joined by rival exorcist Tsubasa Juumonji and fellow shinigami Ageha. Rinne just cannot get a break! Join him on this journey to make it big as a Shinigami, pay off his father’s debts, and maybe even get a girlfriend.

This Supernatural school romcom is back again for the third season and what a relief. We really enjoyed season two even if Kain is a bit of an eyesore and a thorn in Rinne’s side. What feels like a gender swapped Inuyasha at points, is really fun to watch even though it is aimed towards a younger audience. If you have seen the first two seasons then we are sure this is already on your list, and for those who are curious, try out the first two seasons first! It’s sure to make you laugh with its lighthearted comedy and wacky-at-times characters.

4. Granblue Fantasy: The Animation

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Air Date: April 1, 2017

Gran and Bii are a young boy and dragon respectively who live together on an island in the sky simply known as Zank Tinzel. Out of the blue one day, a girl simply named Lulia falls right into their laps. She is currently fleeing from an aggressive military belonging to the Eleste Empire. Throwing caution to the wind, because why not, Gran agrees to help her and they flee. Gran’s father has been gone for a long time but left him with but one note that says “Wait for me on the island of starts, Istlusia.” They race off in search of Gran’s father with the Eleste Empire hot on their tracks.

Granblue Fantasy is adapted from a very, very popular mobile game in Japan. Which makes sense as to why they have been dragging out this series. They need this to be a success since the game does so well. This fantasy/magic/action anime is very much like Tales of Zestiria, any tales anime adaptation really, or even the Persona 4 anime. The real standout thing to note other than having a good staff on deck is that Nobuo Uematsu is doing the soundtrack. Does that name ring a bell? It should. Nobuo Uematsu is famous for composing all of the Final Fantasy music so if you didn’t have a reason up till now to watch it, now you do. You’re welcome. Dive on into this fantasy adventure anime!

3. Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka Gaiden: Sword Oratoria (Sword Oratoria)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: April 15, 2017

Sword Oratoria is the long awaited side story adaptation of Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru darou ka? The series now focuses on Aiz Wallenstein also known as the sword princess. So DanMachi pseudo-season 2 is what you will get. Aiz is going to be heading down into The Dungeon to pass through the 50th floor. However, when they are besieged down there, she uses magic and happens to meet someone.

While it is not the official second season of Danmachi, we are getting more and we could not be more thrilled. This action fantasy anime appears as if it is going to be doubling down with the action to give us more. While we are not sure if the boy she meets is Bell, it could turn out to be someone else as well. Fans who have not seen DanMachi, again, drop everyone and go watch it now because this season is truly going to be a treat for those of us who have been waiting!

2. Clockwork Planet

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Air Date: April 7, 2017

Welcome to the second to last show on our countdown list! This action/fantasy anime looks to be pretty good, so check out the plot! The world was destroyed. Then years later, a genius clockwork master re-created the earth and replaced everything with gears and clockwork to make a Clockwork Planet. Naoto Miura is an Automata aficionado who lucks out one day when a black box crashed down on his out. Inside is a broken Automata girl. Bringing her back to life, their adventure begins!

We cannot put our fingers on it exactly, but there is something about this anime that really does make us feel like there is going to be something in the wings that comes along in the series and blows us away. Maybe it is because it is so difficult to compare this to other series. Ideas and ideologies are going to clash hard in this series as well as the lines between human and machine will blur. So for now, if you are not watching #1 on this list, you should at least consider watching this selection!

1. Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho

  • Episodes: TBA
  • Air Date: April 10, 2017

This series has no relation to the mega-series that was RE: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu. There will be no Rem, no Subaru, and no Puck. However what there will be, is something rather quite interesting. Welcome to the final place in our list! Witches are everywhere in this society. A mercenary who shockingly is a mercenary is a half-human, half-beast, witch-hating being. He stumbles across a witch one day who proclaims to him, “Want to be human? Then be my escort!” Mercenary cannot stand witches, but his dream is to be human and rid of this form that makes him a target for taunting. The witch, named Zero, needs help finding a forbidden grimoire simply known as The Book of Zero. Mercenary agrees and they move on, but it seems that it may already be too late as someone is tailing them!

No Relation to Re:Zero, but this has hardcore Spice and Wolf vibes with magic as well as other supernatural elements at play. This is one of the most anticipated series of Spring with respect to the giants like AoT 2, Berserk 2, Boku no Hero Academia 2, and more, but something about this story strikes us as a bit refreshingly original. We are really looking forward to seeing what Zero gets into.
