  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: Apr, 2017- Present

The world has found itself shifting in power after a decade has passed since the revival of Bahamut. The Royal Capital has begun gaining vast amounts of wealth and humans have been living well off because of this increase. The Demon race finds themselves in servitude to the humans now and are helping deepen the pockets of the city folks. Even the Gods are suffering, thanks to a lack of faith their power is waning with every passing day. Enter Drango Nina as she walks in this new age of distorted power and where her fate will lead her.

Three Major Similarities Between Tales of Zestiria the X and Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul

1. Dragons and more Dragons

A good fantasy anime needs dragons and both series have that. One of the main elements of Tales of Zestiria the X focuses on seraphim who let too much malevolence invade their spirits transforming them into deadly dragons with an absurd amount of power and ferocity. Our main character of Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul just happens to be of a dragon blood. Nina is tough, fast and is even able to transform into a dragon. Obviously she isn’t the only dragon to appear in Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul, but we can’t tell you who else as that would be massive spoilers and we here at Honey’s Anime don’t do spoilers.

2. Drama and Comedy

Fantasy needs to have a good mix of drama and comedic moments to truly bring characters together on a journey. With so many personalities at play, it’s only natural at times even the darkest plots will have some light hearted banter between the characters. In the case of Tales of Zestiria the X, you can see that in the constant jabs between Mikleo and Edna. This is seen in several episodes where Edna will constantly make fun of Mikleo’s name by changing it to things such as Meebo. On the flip side, Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul plays a reverse where comedy takes the center stage most of the time but has moments of drama. Nina and Favaro are definitely the focus of the comedic elements of Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul thanks to some of their well-executed lines and timed jokes.

3. Amazing Art

Studio MAPPA and ufotable are both well recognized names in the anime world. Each of these great studios are known for bringing an excellence in terms of art and animation to their works and it’s clear as day in Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul as well as Tales of Zestiria the X. The story may hook you in either series but the animation really will be what keeps you going when the action starts or even during a scene where characters are just chatting away. Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul only has several aired episodes but every episode has been a visual treat for the eyes and we here at Honey’s Anime will never complain about great art and we’re sure you won’t either.

Liked Tales of Zestiria the X? Watch Granblue Fantasy The Animation!

  • Episodes: 14
  • Aired: Apr, 2017- Present

In Granblue Fantasy The Animation, the world isn’t on the land but in the soaring skies. Gran and his companion Vryn, who happens to be a flying lizard, find everyday a new adventure. Both Gran and Vryn live on the island of Zinkenstill a place filled with mysteries waiting to be unearthed. One day Gran runs into a young girl named Lyria who has been on the run from the Erste Empire known for wanting to take over the world using their military powers. Lyria then gives Gran a letter from his father claiming he’s waiting in Estalucia the island of stars…

Three Major Similarities Between Tales of Zestiria the X and Granblue Fantasy The Animation

1. Game Adaptations

Like Tales of Zestiria the X, Granblue Fantasy The Animation is also based on a video game. While Granblue Fantasy The Animation wasn’t a console game, it was a widely popular RPG for Android and iOS phones from developer Cygames. Fans of Tales of Zestiria found a lot to love in seeing their favorite heroes and villains from the games take animated form and same can be said of Granblue Fantasy. However, if you’re weary of going into Granblue Fantasy The Animation without having played the game we’re happy to announce don’t be. Similar to Tales of Zestiria the X viewers will need no previous knowledge of the game to find enjoyment in Granblue Fantasy The Animation. Though we won’t be surprised if you find yourself wanting to play the game after watching the series.

2. Brothers of Adventure

Sorey and Gran could be brothers honestly. Both of these protagonists find the thrill of adventure to be their reasons for their predicaments. The day Gran met Lyria, he was destined to have to venture out from his comfortable home and head towards dangerous fights and bountiful amounts of adventure. Besides their love for adventure, both Sorey and Gran are capable fighters and aren’t afraid to take danger headlong. In episode 5 of Granblue Fantasy The Animation we see Gran and his allies having to escape from the enemy and Gran jumps at the enemy well aware of the dangers he faces. While it may seem reckless and sometimes foolish, Gran is like Sorey they both are willing to protect those they value at the cost of their own health.

3. Amazing Lore

A fantasy adventure can’t be called a true experience if it’s not overflowing with rich lore. Granblue Fantasy The Animation’s world of the Phantagrande Skydom is full of interesting stories such as the various flying kingdoms such as Zinkenstill. Those familiar with Granblue Fantasy game lore will find plenty of new things to discover such as more in-depth looks at various characters. Studio A-1 Pictures clearly made sure to honor the original source material a necessity in any adaptation. While Gran may be on his own quest to save the world as well as uncover as many mysteries as he can, viewers will be sure to feel as if they too are on an epic journey alongside him and his allies.

Final Thoughts

Tales of Zestiria the X is definitely a great show in its own right. That’s why we know when it aired many probably felt their eyes begin to tear up that the adventure was over. However, that’s why we here at Honey’s Anime hope that our two similar titles will bring you back to happiness that you had while watching Tales of Zestiria the X. Granblue Fantasy The Animation and Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul are the best cure for those who want similar anime to watch and we here at Honey’s Anime can’t recommend them enough. As always please comment down below telling us your thoughts on any of these shows or maybe a show that we could have added in lieu of one of our choices. Don’t be sad folks, the world of fantasy anime is large indeed and all it takes is the first step to be made to find a new wonderful anime journey that wishes to start.

Hey everyone I’m Aaron Curbelo or Blade as I’m called by my YouTube Subscribers. I’ve been an anime/manga fan since I was a young kid. In terms of anime I have watched nearly a thousand shows and have read hundreds of manga series. I love writing and honestly was so happy to join Honey’s Anime to get a shot to write articles for such a wonderful site. I’m a firm believer in respect in the anime community being the most important embodiment we should all have. We all love anime and we have varying opinions of series but we should respect one another for those differences! Life is too precious to spend it making needless arguments in a community that should be the shining example of loving an amazing medium. I hope as a writer for Honey’s Anime I can bring you folks some amazing articles to read and enjoy!
