So now we have the next installment in the Fate series. Interesting!

This is a bit different from Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. This is because we have two different full factions vying for the Holy Grail.

So then, is it like Durarara!!?

Hmmm, I suppose you could say that. It's alternative setting set after the Third Holy Grail War. Fans not wanting to stray too far from the Fate Metaseries itself could always check out Tsukihime or the Kara no Kyoukai (Garden of Sinners) movie series too!

Synopsis

Once, in a town called Fuyuki, a ceremony called the Holy Grail War was held by seven magi and heroic spirits. However, taking advantage of the chaos of the second world war, the Holy Grail was stolen by a certain mage.

Several decades later, the Yggdmillennia family estranged themselves from the Mage's Association and declare their independence. Enraged, the Mage’s Association sent out assassins, but the Servants they summoned turned against them.

Servants must fight against Servants.

The Holy Grail War system has changed, and a war of seven Knights versus seven Knights, the likes of which has never been seen before, has broken out. Thus, the curtain is raised on the first and most likely last Great Holy Grail War.

Three Episode Impression

Fate/Apocrypha is nothing new here at Honey’s Anime since we have been talking about it now for about a month or so. The series is part of the Fate franchise and tells an alternate story to the one we know. This time, one of the families wants to break away, the Holy Grail has disappeared after the third war, and there has been no Fourth Holy Grail War. The Mage’s Association sends out their own party to retrieve the Holy Grail and thus, the Red faction versus the Black faction Great Holy Grail War is born. Honestly, the series takes some time setting up. With 14 servants and masters now instead of the usual 7 each, there is a bit of setup that has to occur. Thankfully, it’s all pretty well done. We meet heroes rather rapidly and are treated to an epic fight scene in the third episode. We also have the mysterious homunculus character as well who is going to be playing a bigger part in Fate/Apocrypha, so there is a lot to look forward to. Honestly, if you are not into the Fate series, now is not that bad of a time to jump in as you don’t need really any backstory to be able to enjoy and understand it. If you are a fan, then you know that two full cours of something that we love is certainly something to be happy about. Here is to hoping that we get what we deserve!
