So is this the sequel to Sore ga Seiyuu!? I feel like this looks and feel similar. Is it a side story?

No. This is it's own standalone show! A girl is diving into the field of her dreams headfirst and learning along the way.

Huh.... this sounds like the premise for shows like New Game! and Sekkou Boys then. I wonder what sort of touble these girls are getting into? haha

That theme of wanting to do something and then becoming good at it is a sort of trope within the industry. Look at shows like Shirobako, Love Get Chu, and Cheer Boys where they go from zeroes to heroes in their respective hobby/work.

Three Episode Impression

You want to know more about the anime industry? Then watch Girlish Number! Diomedea’s new comedy show is not only entertaining to watch, but also sheds light on the daily adventures of a seiyuu - a Japanese voice actress. What we especially like about this show is the fact how it caters to people interested in the anime industry, as well as people who are simply looking for a new comedy or Slice of Life show. The characters are multi-dimensional; most of them are not stereotypes and instead of trying to represent only one character trait, we have characters who can be witty, charismatic, passionate, arrogant and everything in between at the same time. Girlish Number might have not received as much attention as other shows of this season, but we’d highly suggest all of you to give this little gem a try.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Chitose Karasuma

Voice Actor: Sayaka Senbogi

A newbie seiyuu who’s cute on the outside and terrible on the inside. She’s quick to get full of herself and quick to get depressed. She’s worried about the fact that she’s currently only getting background character jobs.

Yae Kugayama

Voice Actor: Kaede Hondo

Chitose’s classmate and friend from voice training school. Her natural cunning makes her hated by some women. She diets all year round.

Koto Katakura

Voice Actor: Yui Ishikawa

A woman who works under the same company as Chitose and speaks with a Kansai accent. Her voice acting career isn’t going well so she has several part-time jobs.

Momoka Sono

Voice Actor: Eri Suzuki

A high-schooler and active idol, seiyuu, and musician. Her parents are big names in the entertainment business, so she has a cheeky personality.

Kazuha Shibasaki

Voice Actor: Saori Oonishi

An overly-conscious seiyuu who strongly admires actors. She’s unhappy with the fact that she’s currently being made to do work other than acting, such as light novel anime roles, because she’s so sought after.

Gojo Karasuma

Voice Actor: Yuuichirou Umehara

Chitose’s older brother and manager. He spends his days with a constant headache due to his sister taking her work way too lightly.
