bombon-yes1 Kabukibu! - Spring 2017
Recently anime about Japanese culture has been a bit of a hit. Look at shows like Sangatsu no Lion and Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu. It only makes sense that Kabukibu! would be next.

Plus it is CLAMP in charge of the original character designs! Rumor has it too that they have some control over the anime character desisgns as well. Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHolic, Tsubasa: Resivoir Chronicle! Everone is going to look great!

Synopsis

Regular first year high-school student Kurogo Kurusu (aka Kuro) has something he loves more than anything - Kabuki! He wants to join a Kabuki club at school, but such a club doesn’t exist. So, he decides to make one! As soon as he enrolls he asks his homeroom teacher if he can create ‘Kabukibu.’

However, this isn’t met with much enthusiasm, and it takes all Kuro’s got to get his teacher to agree to even let him start an appreciation club. Even then, he has to gather four other members. So, he starts recruiting others along with his best friend, a guy with glasses called Tombo.

Three Episode Impression

Kabukibu! Is the story of Kurogo Kurusu who has one love in live: Kabuki! His dream is to make a Kabuki club and put on a real performance with his club mates. Slowly but surely, he begins to collect members as we are introduced to them. CLAMP is the one behind the illustrations, so you know that their art style and influence is going to be prominent within the series.

To be honest, I tried really hard to get into this series. But the story is horribly done and while yes, as a lover of CLAMP, I do love the art of the series, the story is so bad. I stopped paying attention multiple times while watching just the first two episodes. The third was so hard! The reviews of it online are not favorable, and they are not undeserved. I have not seen episode four, nor do I plan to. Sadly, this anime is poorly conceived and while everyone loves a good train wreck, it has to have some sort of redeeming quality to it and this series does not seem to be anything more than fujo-trash. While that is not bad, it is hard to find anyone who is not a fujoshi/fundashi loving the series.
