ahahahahahaha that PV is hysterical!!! The best part is when Tooru tried to do the laundry by chewing on the dirty clothes. Who thought of that? Genius!

Bahahahahaha this is amazing. I don't know what is going on other than the maid is freeloading, but is also a dragon and she has friends coming. Kyoto Animation may truly have a winner on its hands this season.

I hate to point so far back into the past, but the humor here is along the lines of God-tier Comedy anime Minami-ke (The Minami Family). Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de and Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru seem similar if you drop the romance aspect.

The humor is clearly here. The voice acting is on point as well. We can enjoy Daisuke Ono, Minami Takahashi, and Yuuichi Nakamura here as Seiyuu in this anime which already looks fantastic.

Synopsis

Tooru lives with Kobayashi-san in her apartment as an uninvited maid. Although Tooru thinks humans are foolish and looks down on them on principle, because she owes Kobayashi-san for helping her in the past, she does her best to serve her. Today too, she’s trying her hardest with this and that. This is a slice-of-life comedy about a dragon girl and a tired office lady!

Three Episode Impression

So far Kobayashi's Maid Dragon has been a mix of comedy gold, adorable loli scenes, and surprisingly well-animated dragon fighting. By the third episode, we've been introduced to a majority of the show's draconic cast: Tooru, the dragon maid herself, Kanna, this season's cutest loli, Quetzalcoatl, the onee-san bouncy castle, and Fafnir, who's some kind of angry demon butler. One of the interesting things about the show is how it's the kind of series where you would expect to find a male protagonist, and the dragons acting as his cute half-lizard harem, but instead, we have an average female office worker in the lead role. So rather than the usual harem scenario, the series has a much more family feel to it, with Koyabashi and Tooru taking the role of parents and little Kanna as the daughter. With that family like setting comes some silly short stories, but also some feel moments, which although not overly long or dramatic, are a nice touch that adds another dimension to each character, as well as many nice little happy endings. Honestly, it's hard to give the show much criticism so far, as it's provided exactly what it promised: laughs and warm fuzzy feelings. We're looking forward to meeting the fifth dragon soon to see what she's all about. With no obvious plot thus far, Dragon Maid seems to be a feel-good slice-of-life show to the core.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Kobayashi-san

Voice Actor: Mutsumi Tamura

A woman who doesn’t bother using makeup to hide her tired face and a self-proclaimed low-level system engineer at Hell Tour Commerce’s Kita-Senjuu office. Full name unknown. She usually acts as cold as she looks, but when she gets drunk her true otaku nature when it comes to butlers and maids is released. When this happens, she’ll strip Tooru of her maid outfit and lecture her about how she’s 'unbecoming of a maid.'

Tooru

Voice Actor: Yuuki Kuwahara

A female dragon from another world who lives at Kobayashi-san’s place. She usually takes the form of a young human girl and wears a maid outfit, but she has two horns growing from her head and you can see her tail coming out of her skirt, so she’s not completely hiding the fact that she’s not human. She feels in debt to Kobayashi-san so does the cooking and cleaning dressed in a maid outfit, but considering she sometimes sniffs Kobayashi-san’s clothes, she may have other feelings for her, too.

Kanna Kamui

Voice Actor: Maria Naganawa

A female dragon from Tooru’s world who adores her and so followed her to the human world. Unlike Tooru, she looks like an elementary school kid (actually, even in dragon form she’s quite a lot smaller than Tooru.) At first she saw Kobayashi-san as an enemy, but since Kobayashi-san saw through Kanna’s reason for coming to the human world and suggested they stay together, she’s stopped being so hostile.

Makoto Takiya

Voice Actor: Yuichi Nakamura

Kobayashi-san’s colleague and drinking buddy who will chat about butlers and maids with her when she’s drunk. When he does so, he puts on round glasses and ends his sentences with ‘yansu.’ As far as he’s concerned, there’s no need for him to treat Kobayashi-san as he would a woman and he invites her to go drinking because they have similar interests and get on well. However, it seems that Tooru has misunderstood this a little, and sees him as a rival.

Elma

Voice Actor: Yuuki Takada

Elma is a young dragon-girl who gets along like cats and dogs with Tooru. Speaking of Tooru, unlike her, Elma wishes to live in harmony with humans and has a rather rigid yet honest personality. Actually, it is extremely difficult for her to be flexible, and unfortunately, Tooru knows that well. She is annoyingly fussy about being a dragon, but if she gets her hands on some food, she will overlook just about anything.

Lucoa

Voice Actor: Minami Takahashi

Lucoa is a dragon that has been living in this world since long ago. Her official name is Quetzálcoatl. Incredibly prudent, she acts as an older sister looking after Tooru. Generally, while having a bird’s-eye view of society, Lucoa concerns herself with maintaining the balance between this world and the other world. Lucoa has the greatest chest of all of the dragon girls with her huge bust, her fault is that she often wears clothes that allow them to hang out.

Fafnir

Voice Actor: Daisuke Ono

Fafnir is a friend of Tooru’s. In the other world, he was in charge of protecting treasure in a cave. When that treasure was stolen by a vile human, he has come to deeply hate humans much like Tooru. Generally harboring malice, Fafnir tends to approach everything with indifference and skepticism. However, he was worried about Tooru and came to this world, so he does have a soft side as well.
