Kyoto Animation Awards Cancelled This Year

What You Need to Know:

  • Each Year, Kyoto Animation holds a competition of sorts simply known as the "Kyoto Animation Awards". And each year, they have cash grand prizes along with honorable mentions (with cash prizes) for manga, novels, and scenarios aka scripts.
  • This year, yet again, they started accepting entires as of June, but today, on their homepage, they have announced that this year, the 9th Annual Kyoto Animation Awards will be cancelled. Instead, what they will do is have them return next year as the 10th Annual Kyoto Animation Awards.
  • The reasoning provided for this year being cancelled is that they want a fresh start in 2018 for the 10th Annual Awards and they also want to focus on impriving the awards as well as revamping the whole process overall. Violet Evergarden, currently slated for an anime debut in 2018, won back in 2014. Other popular anime that have won in the honorable mentions category, are Free!, Chuunibyou, and Kyoukai no Kanata. Here is to seeing who wins next year!
