Tanya Is So Clever and Devious!

Alfonso "Fonzy" Ortiz

In this week’s episode of Youjo Senki, Tanya is given the task of assembling a battalion of Mages to send to the frontlines of war. She basically tries her best to not be sent to the frontlines because she still feels like she doesn’t owe anyone anything, other than devoting her reincarnated life to the death of Being-X, the underling of God (or possibly God) and the reason for her unfortunate reincarnation after having an argument about the existence of God... It’s kind of funny when you think about it, but boy is it intense.

One of Tanya’s communications soldier intercepts transmissions from a nearby country who apparently, have left themselves open for attack… Tanya takes this opportunity to launch an attack and surprise the hell of them. The one moment that really made a mark on me was when Tanya acknowledges that her military ways are unorthodox but that she is not a barbarian when invading another country’s capital. Instead, she declares war lawfully so that it is recorded she honored the code of war. Although, she had a trick up her sleeve to still achieve the element of surprise and that was to announce their invasion with her girly, child’s voice. This has the invading country think all of this is some kid’s joke and they don’t take it at all seriously. Unfortunately for them, Tanya means business and announcing a declaration of war in a child's voice, has, indeed, given her not only the element of surprise, but a huge victory as well.

Basically, hearing Tanya declare war on another country in a child’s voice was pretty damn funny, which is why it is my best moment for this week in anime!

Tanya scares me so much… I don’t want to run into her in a dark alley when she’s mad… NO, PLEASE!

Where is the Ghost of Christmas Present?

Nagareboshi

This past week on Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu has just been too much. Finally, last week Konatsu got over her fear of doing rakugo and gave her performance to the kindergarten and her son. Konatsu and Yotarou are growing together while raising her child and is a very tender moment in the series. Yakumo busts Yotarou for being in the red light district and everyone thinks that he is going to see a prostitute, but he reveals his resolve for finishing things and has finished the carp on his back! On to the important event…

This week Yotarou and Yakumo are finally doing a family performance while Kontasu performs the Shamisen. Yotarou does an excellent performance of warming up the audience and really knocks it out of the park much to the chagrin of Yakumo. Right before he does take the stage, Yakumo complains that he is going to have a harder time controlling the audience since they are now in such good spirits. Yakumo begins to perform Hangon-ko which is a story about using incense to call upon the dead one more time. The priest in the story performs it successful and when his neighbor tries, he just burns his house down. However, while performing it, the smoke actually summons a very important woman, most likely Miyokichi, in front of Yakumo from the past. Only he can see her, and whether or not it is a delusion or not is hard to confirm. We already know that the child of Konatsu is the ghost of Christmas future. What is surprising is that Sukeroku, from season one, finally appears in what looks like a pathway between heaven and hell. He is the ghost of Christmas past Sukeroku throws Yakumo down and it looks as if he is going to push him into hell. So, the question of the hour is, where is the ghost of Christmas present? Is it Konatsu? What did Yakumo aka Kiku do to Sukeroku that makes Konatsu hate him so much? This just gets better and better with each installment!

How Dere Dare You

Ellyn Barnes

Oh boy, where to start with this week’s Masamune-kun no Revenge? Episode five saw the entrance of new character Neko, who I have affectionately renamed Marika the Second, as her character has so far played out to be exactly like the fake-princess from Nisekoi. It didn’t take long for her to slip out of her pretentious style of speech and into some kind of dialect, and for some reason she’s obsessed with Masamune, although the real reason is yet to be revealed. But I digress. What made this episode so great for me wasn’t so much Little Miss No Pants (although she is quite frankly hilarious) but our leading lady’s reaction to this new character.

Aki’s tsun has slowly been slipping recently, and we can tell something is changing within her. But will she ever admit that she might, possibly, just a little bit, maybe not hate Masamune all that much after all? It’s debatable. We know it will at least take a little bit more time for her to be able to say it in words, but boy did we get a pretty clear indicator of her interest through her actions at the end of this episode.

We can feel Masamune’s pain as he struggles with Neko’s untimely appearance throughout the episode, and we can feel his shock at the cliffhanger ending. Although I could sort of see it coming, when Aki asked Masamune to prove his feelings for her by kissing her, I screamed a little bit. Her flushed cheeks, her inability to keep eye contact, her reluctance to actually dare Masamune to kiss her - it’s finally happened! The dere is here!!

Aki is definitely less dere than most tsunderes I’ve seen recently… Which makes moments like these all the more excellent. 10/10.

None of That Consideration

Jenangelx3

Yes yes, Nyanko Days is a short anime and in this week’s episode, they did not even have the little cat (girls?), but I had a moment where I connected a tiny bit. Well, I at least felt like I’ve had this feeling before haha. It was when Azumi took Yuuko to a cafe and Yuuko stops, remarking that the cafe is extremely expensive. Then Yuuko goes on to order the cheapest thing on the menu to be considerate of Azumi who is supposed to treat her, but of course, Azumi tells her to stop and enjoy herself.
I have definitely had those moments where I want to be considerate of the person treating me and order as cheaply as possible. Then I have those moments where I envy people who can just do as they please without money, especially considering I just got back from a trip. Whhhyy can’t I have all the fun in the world? I do not think I am quite as nice as Yuuko, though since I envy how carefree rich people can be haha. Yuuko seems to be just nice and content with her cats, but I guess if your cats cleaned after themselves the way Yuuko’s cats do, that would make life so much easier. I envy all the characters in Nyanko Days!

Sometimes it would just be nice if my life were as easy as Azumi’s!

Drunken Beast

Lizzy Nyanko

In this episode of Urara Meirochou, the girls are all getting ready for the Wedding Kimono festival in which the gods are on the lookout for brides. Nina-sensei has helped Chiya, Kon, Nono and Koume get dressed and they hit the town to enjoy the festivities. After buying way too many sweets and snacks (as usual!), Koume points out some ceremonial sake that is being given out for free and they decide to partake, by only smelling it of course, since they are underage.

Well, not everybody got the memo, and that’s when the best moment starts. Chiya drank (or sniffed?) the sake and got pretty drunk! Her face turns red, her eyes get sleepy, and for some reason, every animal in the vicinity charges at her and she’s smothered by animal cuddles. Kon assumes the alcohol enhanced Chiya’s pheromones, and then Koume and Nono get in on it too! Soon after that, Chiya starts throwing snacks from their basket to everyone in the area. When Ooshima and Shiozawa run to get help from their Captain, Saku, Chiya beats them to it and glomps the heck out of her, knocking her to the ground. Saku’s lackeys are already drooling over the view of Saku lying on the floor in a very “dignified way”, and then they get a blessing from the gods all their own. Drunk Chiya, who’s practically lying on Saku at this point, decides to greet her by licking her cheek! A soft “kyah~” is all the shocked, flushed Captain can muster right before Chiya runs off like a wild kitten. Needless to say, Ooshima and Shiozawa were the big winners that day!

This whole scene was adorable and funny, not to mention Saku’s reaction was just priceless! While the show amy seem a bit slow and episodic up to this point, this episode also showed us that Chiya can apparently see deities and there may be one interested in her! Really looking forward to what else we have in store!
