Three Reasons Why We Are Getting Attack on Titan Season Three

Hey. Hi. You like Shingeki no Kyojin and so do I. That is why we are here. The series has done very well for itself and now, after what feels like an eternity, we are finally getting a new season. Well, kind of. I mean, we are getting a new season, and it’s okay to good and all, but let’s be honest and upfront; you, I, and everyone on the internet knows that if this series does not get another season, then the entire Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan franchise is over. I don’t mean just over, I mean that nothing else of note that would bring in the big bucks would be made for this series again.

So, WIT Studio & the creator, Hajime Isayama, are not going to let this anime go anywhere, anytime soon. Today, I will present three points that logically should explain why we will still be seeing a Shingeki no Kyojin Season Three with Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and then gang killing titans while shooting around on their 3-D gear.

1. The Story of This Season is Discombobulated.

The promise of a long-awaited and majorly hyped second season to Shingeki no Kyojin was speculated as if it is going to become as good as, or possibly even surpass, its predecessor. However, what we have gotten, was a first half of the season that was about… flashbacks. While we all love a good flashback that gives backstory, was it really necessary to waste our time after four years of waiting with episode after episode chocked-full of flashbacks? Put it in an OVA and call it even. Not to mention too, the original story of WHY THE TITAN IS IN THE WALL, has been thrown out of the window completely. It seemed like they were going to get answers by terrifying the priest and the plot would move forward, but no such luck.

Now, while the story has actually started to take off around the middle, we are now between episode eight and nine. Do you actually believe that WIT Studio, after not spending precious moments of Eren kicking ass on screen, but rather on flashbacks, are going to rush a conclusion to the story in the final four episodes? Absolutely not. While yes, we can all agree that we are wanting more and we are happy to get it, the story is a mess. I’m sure that they will find a way to bring it all together, but doing so in the next four episodes seems a bit harsh.

2. Ending It Will Irreversibly Damage the Series

Shingeki no Kyojin is a goldmine, and the more that the story is dragged out, the more money can be made off of things like DVDs, cafes, merch, and special editions of things. Literally everything that has SnK slapped on it sells out rather quickly and for a good price. You will not find Shingeki no Kyojin goods in the bargain bin. This alone is a strong indicator that it would not be a sound business decision to end the series. Plus, above all else, yes, it is expensive to make an anime, but an anime is the mostly easily consumed media. Sure, there are manga snobs who will only read the manga and there are anime snobs who will only watch the anime, but the manga snobs are in the minority. More likely than not, people are going to want to watch an anime before they are going to be willing to pick up a book for the series. It’s simple math and business.

We all know the licensing rights for that show alone fetch a pretty penny over others. It is feasible that all anime are licensed at the same rate, but I also think that Japanese businessmen are not stupid and know what Shingeki no Kyojin is worth. By ending this series, it would not only disenchant fans, but the series would lose a large chunk of its fan base who are not willing to spend the time reading the manga to find out more. Some will, but the majority will not. WIT Studio and Hajime Isayama are not about to cut open this golden egg-laying goose.

3. Too Many Questions

There are just too many unanswered questions for Shingeki no Kyojin to end with this season. Like I pointed out before, there is just too much misdirection to the point that I am not sure what the direction of the series is going to be. We started out talking about the titan in the wall. Then, it was about the religion that is clearly hiding something. Then, it was about if there is a hole in the wall. Then, it was a bunch of flashbacks. Then, it was about finding the hole in the wall again, but the priest storyline was put on hold for a bit. Then, it was about getting Ymir help, and now, with none of these being resolved, save for the flashbacks, we are now trying to figure out where Reiner and Bertolt are taking Ymir and Eren after they revealed that they too are titans. They still have said NOTHING about the giant hairy ape titan. So where is he in all of this?

Now, I am not reading the manga. I also do not plan to. It is not that I am a manga snob or anything; I am just too busy. However, if the manga is like this, then the readers must be foaming at the mouth monthly for new chapters. The story must be almost unbearable, because while you are getting more each time, it only leaves you with more questions. We should be somewhere around chapter 46-47 in the manga which is all good and well, but where are we going? The anime is following the manga, and while I am all for plot devices and twists, this is getting to be a bit much. Please answer at least one to two questions before giving us more. When approached logically, you see clearly why this series cannot end here.

Conclusion

I know you must be looking at your screen wondering why I have not said “Attack on Titan Season Three Confirmed!” and that is because the official notification has not come. The setup and demand for it are here, so while it may not be right this moment, logically you know it is coming. Be sure to let me know if you have more ideas or theories as to why we are getting more!
