What's this? A sports anime? Does that mean more BL shipability for us fujoshi?

You never know! But considering this is a reanimation of a series from 1969, it's more likely going to be similar to Hajime no Ippo and Slam Dunk.

Don't ruin the only sports anime I've been interested in in a while! Also, doesn't the art style kind of remind you of Western comics/cartoons? Like Boku no Hero Academia!

Synopsis

A new anime series based on Tiger Mask.

Two young wrestlers face each other at Tora no Ana, an underground pro wrestling organisation that has been resurrected.

The pro-wrestling dojo where the two trained together had been crushed by Tora no Ana. One is the successor of the special training facility at the foot of Mt. Fuji and the tiger mask, left to him by Naoto Date. The other however enters Tora no Ana, wins a succession of fierce fights, and gets his hands on the jet-black tiger mask.

Tiger Mask, the one who walks the path of light, and Tiger the Dark, who walks the path of shadows. Neither of them know the other's real identity. While they may be natural enemies in the ring, their objective is one and the same: Crush Tora no Ana!

Three Episode Impression

A wrestling anime? Yes, you have read correctly, Toei Animation has stumbled upon a fairly unexplored area in anime and dared to venture into it. The lack of wrestling anime out there means that you can expect to see something that you are (most likely) not too familiar with. This being said, if we view Tiger Mask W as yet another Sports anime, it does merely an average job. Sports shows rely on fluid movements and quick-paced action and Tiger Mask W doesn’t excel at this area. The artwork is neither pretty nor unique and the plot doesn’t really pull you in. Is it a bad show? Maybe not, especially if you are a fan of pro wrestling and have waited for the day it would create a love child with anime. For most of you though, this show doesn’t have much to offer except corny dialogues and predictable fighting scenes.
