Top 10 Anime Worlds You Want to Live In [Updated Best Recommendations]

También puedes leer este artículo en: Español

Anime is great because there are so many things that help draw in the viewer. Among these is that anime is able to whisk the viewer off to an imaginary land that is beyond one's wildest dreams, or to a far off land that they would love to visit some day or even to a place a brisk walk away. Anime's ability to create a vividly real world is definitely one of its greatest things.

Where there are new or even familiar locales, there is also a sense of escapism – a feeling of desire and longing – to become a part of that world. Similar to our own or vastly different, surely you've dreamed of visiting at least one world from an anime. If you haven't, don't worry because here are the Top 10 Anime Worlds You Want to Live In!

10. Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist (Shimoneta to Iu Gainen Ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: July 2015 – September 2015

Not everyone's open to a good dirty joke. In fact, there are those who downright oppose the idea of it, and would rather see it outlawed. Those people are in luck: an anime world like Shimoneta will make them feel quite at home.

Shimoneta takes place in a dystopian future of Japan, where the government has made anything mildly inappropriate illegal. Just short of policing thought, the Japan of Shimoneta has special devices called "Peace Makers" that detect lewd words of gestures, further encouraging citizens to refrain from such activities. It's definitely an affront to human rights and privacy, but that's the price you pay to be rid of juvenile "That's what she said jokes."

9. Keijo!!!!!!!!

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: October 2016 – December 2016

There's no right or wrong answer. Everyone has the right to their own opinions, but which of these sounds better: a world where one of the biggest sports features women in swimsuits use their breasts and buttocks to combat each other or one where it's a game with men running around chasing a ball? It's not even a question!

If you're someone who picked the right...er...first answer, then the world of Keijo!!!!!!!! sounds perfect for you. At first, Keijo!!!!!!!! might sound like an ideal world for pervy guys, but while there may definitely be some truth to this statement, keep in mind that Keijo is a water sport for women! One problem with our current scene of female sports is that well-endowed women are often at a disadvantage; not with Keijo, however.

How about that? A world where women's sports is at the top of the sports world. While we've listed more some additional reasons that the world of Keijo!!!!!!!! would be a great one to live in, let's be honest; you like the idea for two reasons: Butt. Sports.

7. Dragon Ball Series

  • Episodes: 291
  • Aired: April 1989 – January 1996

One of the most famous anime series of all time is, without question, Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball series. Due to the high level of danger, world destruction, and death, it's probably one of those world's most people would like to visit from behind a thick protective glass. Dangers aside, however, there are many reasons to want to settle down in the world (and universe) inhabited by the Z-Fighters.

One of the most unfortunate things about life is that we never have enough time. In the world of Dragon Ball Z, there's this great thing called a hyperbolic time chamber. In the hyperbolic time chamber, you can do a year's worth of activity, and only lose a day of real time. The famous adage that Rome wasn't built in a day clearly wasn't uttered with the hyperbolic time chamber in mind.

If achieving maximum efficiency at things isn't your cup of tea, then Dragon Ball has more to offer than just saving time. Dragon Ball takes place in a world with lots of futuristic technology: flying cars, hyper speed space travel, androids, time travel, and space saving capsules. Adding to the danger is lots of prehistoric creatures, who while dangerous may even be domesticated. A pterodactyl pet, how cool is that?

From time and space travel, time dilation machines, and prehistoric animals, the world of Dragon Ball has much more to offer than just being able to witness the universe strongest fighters go at it. Which, isn't that bad of a thing in and of itself.

6. Kill la Kill

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: October 2013 – March 2014

Kill la Kill takes place in a semi-alternate timeline of Earth where mankind's evolution was fast-tracked by the presence of an alien life form called, Life Fibers. Thanks to the Life Fibers, we are the clothed and advanced species that we are today. In the modern world, 100% of the world's clothing is provided by the Revocs Corporation, a clothing company run by the Kiryuin Conglomerate. Ragyo Kiryuin, head of the Kiryuin Conglomerate, also happens to be a fashionista connected to Life Fibers and obsessed with clothes.

The world in Kill la Kill is extremely fashion oriented, but its high fashion sense isn't the only thing that makes it so appealing. Kill la Kill takes place primarily in Honnoji Academy, a school where social rank dictates everything. High ranking students have the honor of wearing Goku Uniforms, uniforms crafted with Life Fibers, giving them special powers and abilities. The power of one's Goku Uniform is determined by their rank, with a 3-Star being the strongest.

To truly enjoy the most of Kill la Kill's world, Honnoji Academy, in particular, you must be able to climb the ruthless hierarchy ladder. Even if you're not able to make the most of the world, at least you'll be dressed nicely. Just be sure to enjoy I before Ragyo and the Life Fibers attempt to take over the world.

5. Konosuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!)

What's better than playing an RPG? Living one, of course! For Kazuma Sato, he's given the chance when he dies and is transported to an alternate world that follows the same rules as a classic RPG. Kazuma, upon arriving in this fantasy world, is given the task of defeating the Demon King and is even helped out more than you are in your standard RPG when he is offered one overpowered weapon.

In KonoSuba, the standard RPG classes are available to you, as you can become anything from an adventurer to an explosion-casting mage. Finally, you can end the debate between friends as to who is the smarter of the two, as just like in an RPG, you have numerically valued stats. Lest we forget the most appealing part of KonoSuba's world, and that of any RPG: the adventuring. It's no easy task to defeat the Demon King, so get out there and level up those awesome skills of yours.

4. My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia)

  • Episodes: 13
  • Aired: April 2016 – June 2016

It's every kids dream to be a superhero. If we're being honest, it's not even the prestige of saving people that is so attractive: it's the super powers, whether is super strength, super speed, laser vision, or invisibility, there's a super power for everyone. Well, welcome to the world of My Hero Academia, where humans have developed special abilities called "quirks." Generally, everyone's quirk is unique, which means not only do you have a super power, but you have one that’s pretty much unique to you.

With great power comes great responsibility. And with great responsibility, there are those who answer to the higher calling, and some who run from the responsibility, and those who ignore it all together and use the power in the wrong ways. Thanks to these people, the world of My Hero Academia not only has super powers but also a calling for heroes.

Use your powers for good, evil, or not at all. With the odds of being born with a quirk strongly in your favor, just be sure to enjoy your powers somehow!

3: Alola from Pokémon Sun & Moon

  • Episodes: ?
  • Aired: November 2016 - ?

Everyone feels a fondness for Pokémon; whether you grew up with the original 150 or later generations, we've all wanted to go around collecting pocket monsters of our own. For some, that desire slowly faded, for others it remained strong. With the announcement of Pokémon Sun & Moon, however, everyone found themselves back on the Pokémon hype train. All aboard!!

This time, Pokémon takes us to the tropical island of Alola. Alola is a great place with its weather and culture that differs from other regions. What makes Alola so appealing, however, is not just the weather and culture but also the pokémon, of course. Alola is home to almost 100 new pokémon, as well as Alolan versions of some classic pokémon.

For now, the closest we can get to catching pokémon in Alola is booking a trip to Hawaii and playing Pokémon GO. The new Alola versions of your favorite Pokémon won't be available, but it's better than nothing!

2. Disboard from No Game No Life

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: April 2014 – June 2014

How many times have you made a deal with a friend, only for them to back out at the last minute. "We never shook on it," "I had my fingers crossed," "Yea, you won but, oh well. You can't make me keep my end of the deal." The world of Disboard is governed by a set of rules called "The Ten Pledges." The pledges state that all problems in Disboard must be solved by way of games. And best of all, the wagers bet are always paid out!

Disboard is the ideal world for gamers, as the show's protagonists, Shiro and Sora, prove, as games are literally the law of the land. Big conflicts such as the sovereignty of land can be settled in a game as simple as rock-paper-scissors, while conflicts as simple as who should do the dishes could be solved with a game as complicated as go: it's all up to the participants.

For some people (shame on them), playing games all day can become a bit of a bore. But that's another thing that makes Disboard such a great place to live: it’s a fantasy world, meaning you can make your games as big as you'd like. You can bring your games to life, with the comfort that everything to return to their normal state after the game's conclusion. Of course, if games really aren’t your thing, then you can go through life in Disboard avoiding conflict and games. If games are your thing, then you're truly in for a treat because prove yourself to be the best gamer in Disboard, and you can become a literal god, Tasteless.

1. Tokyo Godfathers

  • Episodes: Movie
  • Aired: August 30, 2003

Ask any anime fan where in the world they would like to visit, and the answer is almost always "Tokyo," answered confidently without missing a heartbeat. Ask that same fan what anime world they'd like to live in, and the answer isn't so agreed upon. Very rarely do you hear an anime that takes place in Tokyo, it's almost as if there's a divide and we assume we must answer with an anime that takes place in a crazy fantasy world far different from our own. Don't fret anime fans, our number 1 pick, Tokyo Godfathers is here to reassure you that it's okay to pick a world not too different from the real one in which we live.

What sets Tokyo Godfathers’ “Tokyo” apart from the Tokyo in other anime is that it doesn't attempt to make Tokyo appear to be a perfect place, or rely on non-realistic elements to make the city appealing. Tokyo Godfathers actually takes perhaps the darker sides of Tokyo and spins it into a tale of humanity and love that makes Tokyo appear to be somewhere you truly want to live.

If the feel-good story isn't enough to convince you that Tokyo is a great place to visit, then perhaps the adventures had by the three unlikely heroes will. Tokyo Godfathers takes the viewers all across Tokyo proving the city to be as lively, and beautiful as many fans believe it to be.

Tokyo Godfathers reminds us that an anime world doesn't have to be a thing of fantasy for us to want to live there. Tokyo with all of its beautiful imperfections is definitely good enough.

Final Thoughts

With all the different worlds out there it's impossible to say that anime is boring. With the multitude of worlds found in anime, there's sure to be one that's right for you. Let us know which anime world you want to live in in the comments below!

This feels like I'm writing a dating profile... Am I pretty enough? In addition to watching anime I like playing video games, mostly RPGs and indies. I lose a lot of Otaku street cred for the games and shows on my backlog (TTGL & FFVII for example #FeelsBadMan). I run a podcast with my friends where we talk about video games and anime. Nice to meet you... or something.
