[Fujoshi Friday] Top 10 Best Bishounen Pairings of 2016

2016 has been very abundant when it comes to giving us shows with lots of charming bishounen. As you all know, viewers can be very imaginative, especially when two good looking guys seem to have this chemistry between them. You may see them as friends, rivals, brothers, or even lovers. It is simply up to you how you want to look at the pairings that we will list here. But one thing is for certain, they are all good looking and very compatible with each other.

Now, before we let you read the article, we would like to give you a small reminder that this list is based on your votes during the Honey’s Anime 2016 Awards. With that, read to your enjoyment~

Yoshiharu Hisomu and Katsuhira “Kacchon” Agata from Kiznaiver

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: Apr. 2016 - Jun. 2016

Let’s start the list with characters that were made by studio Trigger, who were also the creators of Kill la Kill. All throughout the show, Hisomu and Kacchon are nothing more than friends. However, the way Hisomu gently looks at Kacchon or even the way his voice softens when they are alone can spark the imagination of people who like to ship! Hisomu is an extreme masochist who is known for his eccentric ways. He will sometimes purposely not cooperate with other Kiznaivers, which can really be a headache to some.

However, maybe because of Kacchon’s lack of emotions, Hisomu finds himself giving in to and listening to Kacchon. The entire group, no matter how much they see Hisomu as someone weird and creepy, also learns a lot in the advices that Hisomu gives to them. In Episode 11 of the anime, Hisomu and Kacchon had a nice chat about Kacchon’s thoughts. Hisomu was only there to listen to Kacchon and comfort him with his soft and gentle voice. It seems our first entry is looking good since Hisomu and Kacchon suit each other, especially when they have those charming faces~

9. Atsushi Nakajima and Ryuunosuke Akutagawa from Bungou Stray Dogs

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: Apr. 2016 - Jun. 2016

Atsushi is a poor orphan who appears to be hunted by a huge white tiger during the full moon. To make matters worse, he is on the streets after being kicked out of the orphanage, seemingly close to death because of hunger. However, an unexpected encounter with Osamu Dazai made him aware that he is also an ability user just like the people of the Armed Detective Agency which Dazai is a member of. Although Atsushi is manipulated into joining the agency, he eventually warms up to its members and even considers it a place where he can return to. But what he doesn’t know is that there are other organizations who are out to get him. Like the infamous underground group, the Port Mafia, where he meets another ability user, Akutagawa.

The moment that these two saw each other for the first time, there was already a looming heavy hostility between them, which only intensified because of their own issues with one another. Atsushi didn’t like the way Akutagawa treated Kyouka as a mere tool for his own unlawful agendas. Meanwhile, Akutagawa cannot accept that Dazai appreciates Atsushi more than him, even though it is pretty evident that he is stronger than the weretiger. Despite the fact that these two have such a rivalry going on, they are rather similar in many ways. They even work well together, which was apparent during Episode 12 of the second season. No wonder Dazai admittedly told Hirotsu that Akutagawa and Atsushi would be an even deadlier pair than the former Double Black. It only shows that no matter how much these two bishounen hate each other, they are perfectly balanced and can work together as one team.

8. Kuro “Sleepy Ash/ Sloth” and Mahiru Shirota from Servamp

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: Jul. 2016 - Sept. 2016

“Thinking simply, it’s got to be me!” those were the spoken words of his uncle after Mahiru’s mother died. He was alone and no one wanted to take him in, so when he heard his uncle utter those touching words, it became his guide to take the simplest way in life. Mahiru intends to do that, but when he picked up a tired looking cat in an alleyway, he eventually realized that the cat, named Kuro, was not just an ordinary stray cat. Without any general knowledge about vampires, Mahiru accidentally formed a contract with Kuro and became the Servamp of Sloth’s Eve.

In the beginning, Mahiru and Kuro only see each other as nuisance. Since Mahiru’s sense of responsibility often clashes with Kuro’s laziness, their partnership was considerably unstable and they would often get into arguments that could sometimes get worse. Kuro will still be there to save his Eve, but he deems it as something troublesome and a dreadful chore. But thanks to Mahiru’s positive outlook on life, he managed to slowly break the walls that surrounded Kuro. Overtime, Kuro begins to value Mahiru’s trust more and devotedly keeps in mind the safety of his master. Kuro may not constantly show his growing fondness to Mahiru, but what matters the most is that this bishounen pair is happy with each other.

7. Tanaka and Oota from Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge (Tanaka-kun is Always Listless)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: Apr. 2016 - Jun. 2016

From the title alone, our protagonist Tanaka has been nothing but lazy and sluggish. He wants nothing more than to live a very peaceful life without the hassle and bustle around him. Fortunately, he has friends besides him who are willing to help him in daily tasks... well, kinda, if you try to look at it from a different angle. Even though some people are ready to assist Tanaka anytime, the winner for the best caretaker of the year goes to Oota!

Tanaka and Oota are close friends despite the fact that Tanaka always relies upon Oota for pretty much everything. While Oota wishes for Tanaka to at least move a little, he can’t seem to leave his friend alone thanks to his good nature. All in all, Oota is literally the other half of Tanaka. Without Oota in his life, just imagine how Tanaka would live, right? The two are often seen together and are mostly victims of people’s stares. Especially for Oota, as some girls on the show want to have their very own Oota~ (Why not? You would surely want one too right?) They are also teased by other people as lovers or husband and wife because that is what they look like and how they act. Tanaka and Oota are the kind of pairing that you would want to look at for relaxing and healing purposes, as that is the vibe they give off to viewers.

6. Osamu Dazai and Nakahara Chuuya from Bungou Stray Dogs

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: Apr. 2016 - Jun. 2016

We have another entry from Bungou Stray Dogs! While Kunikida is the current partner of Dazai, and they do work smoothly together, the suicidal maniac actually had another partner who was amazingly in-sync with him while he was still an active member of the Port Mafia. Dazai and Chuuya were known as the formidable pairing “Double Black”, for they single-handedly wiped out an entire enemy organization in one night. They were indeed feared by other notorious groups, but really, Dazai and Chuuya are a couple of nitwits. Simply put, these two often bicker like little children.

Dazai has always been a carefree man who likes to bully and tease people who immediately fall into his ridiculous shenanigans like Atsushi, Kunikida, and yes, even the naive Chuuya. This is more shown during Episode 9 and 10 of the first season, where Dazai managed to irritate and embarrass Chuuya with his right predictions regarding his situation. Another one is in Episode 21 of the second season wherein Dazai kept on playing tricks on Chuuya, like pretending that his arm was chopped off; or the fact that he left Chuuya even when the beat-up man humbly asked him to bring him to his extraction point. They are certainly entertaining to watch! In spite of the fact that Dazai and Chuuya are in different organizations right now, it is unmistakable that they still trust each other when the time to fight together arises.

5. Shizuo Heiwajima and Izaya Orihara from Durarara!!x2 Ketsu

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: Jan. 2016 - Mar. 2016

Durarara!!! is back once again together with a pairing that has been a fan favorite since long ago. Their unusual relationship began during their high school days, when Izaya would often irritate Shizuo to no end, as he is prone to fits of anger; which is quite entertaining to Izaya. As for Shizuo, he totally hates Izaya with every fiber of his being for making most of his life miserable. Every time these two are together, it is expected that there will be property damages because of their violent rampage. In Durarara!!!x2 Ketsu, the anime finally shows the end of Izaya and Shizuo’s long time battle.

We will not disclose any spoilers about what happened between these two characters during this anime, but one thing is for sure, the conclusion of the fight between Izaya and Shizuo is truly satisfying. The pair Shizuo and Izaya is certainly complex and extremely fierce. Even though they hate each other, there is this chemistry between them that one cannot overlook. Izaya even considers his relationship with Shizuo as something close and personal to him despite the fact that the core of their relationship revolves around hatred. They are an odd pairing to begin with, nevertheless, the differences that they have are what keep this pair alive in the anime community.

4. Tobio Kageyama and Shouyou Hinata from Haikyuu!!: Karasuno Koukou VS Shiratorizawa Gakuen (Haikyuu!! 3rd Season)

  • Episodes: 10
  • Air Date: Oct. 2016 - Dec. 2016

Hinata and Kageyama first met during a match between their respective schools. While it was obvious enough that Kitagawa Daiichi would win in a landslide of points, Kageyama couldn’t help but be interested in Hinata. At first, Kageyama sees Hinata as someone who is weak and is too idealistic to know the extent of his abilities. However, to his shock, he sees a glimpse of Hinata’s true capability and outright accepts the orange-haired boy’s challenge. In a funny turn of events, they finally meet once again, but this time as teammates.

Hinata and Kageyama are two characters that are greatly in contrast, not only in their appearance, but also their personalities. Well, with the exception of their love of volleyball, of course. While they are teammates and coordinate together rather flawlessly on the court, they are also mostly seen childishly mocking and insulting each other because of their rivalry. Despite this, the two of them push each other to grow and improve. Hinata helps Kageyama by helping the grumpy king to rely on his teammates and to be more open about himself. Meanwhile, Kageyama helps Hinata by improving his partner’s skills and techniques in volleyball. In this season, one can see that these two bishounen have undoubtedly come a long way. The way they understand one another despite their opposite natures is actually a very adorable thing to see.

3. Haru “Natsu” Kaidou and Ren Kaidou from Super Lovers

  • Episodes: 10
  • Air Date: Apr. 2016 - Jun. 2016

After receiving a message from his mother which stated that she was about to die, Haru found himself flying over to Canada only to find out that all that was stated in the message were just lies. Still, his mother made him stay for the whole summer to babysit a young boy named Ren, who happens to be his new step-brother. For days, Haru tried to civilize Ren, which to him felt like all his efforts were for naught. Fortunately, Ren finally opened up and listened more to Haru. They eventually made a promise that once Haru graduated from high school, he would take Ren to Japan and live with him along with his half twin-brothers. But tragedy struck when Haru came back to Japan. It resulted in the death of his father and step-mother and caused him to forget the summer he spent in Canada. 5 years in the future, Ren goes to Japan to fulfill his promise, and he also plans to make Haru keep his promise too, in spite of the fact that Haru cannot remember him.

Haru is a doting brother who greatly cares about his siblings, especially when it comes to Ren. As an adult, he is often seen happy and carefree in his everyday life, but just like any other person, he also hides some parts of him that he does not want to show to anybody. But somehow, every time Ren is near him, Haru begins to mellow out and begins to speak his mind, which helps him a lot. Since Ren is a bit too mature for his age, he is sometimes the one to put Haru in his place when the older man starts to go overboard with some things. This pairing may have some misunderstandings here and there mainly because of their age gap, nonetheless, they talk it out and love each other more deeply than before.

2. Nagisa Shiota and Karma Akabane from Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (TV) 2nd Season (Assassination Classroom Second Season)

  • Episodes: 25
  • Air Date: Jan. 2016 - Jul. 2016

Before being transferred into class E, Nagisa was originally from class D, along with Karma. The first one to initiate a conversation between them was Karma when he noticed that Nagisa was reading a comic book that he really liked. From then on, the two became close friends and would go out to eat or even watch movies. They were usually together for those two years until Karma began to slowly distance himself from Nagisa. Because of that, Nagisa thought that Karma simply didn’t want to be with him, when in fact, Karma was just too shaken up to respond and face Nagisa after the incident where his friend poked him in the back and he felt an ominous presence around Nagisa. Karma thinks that Nagisa is someone harmless and weak, so he was really taken aback when that happened. In their third year of Junior High, they were both transferred to class E for their own personal reasons and became classmates once again.

Karma and Nagisa is another pairing that is totally opposite, yet very familiar. Despite the short misunderstanding that they had, they still consider one another as the closest of friends. While many are scared to get close to Karma, Nagisa is the only one who doesn’t seem to care about the dangerous image that Karma holds. He is often teased and made fun off by Karma, but Nagisa doesn’t take offense in it and is actually quite used to his friend’s shenanigans. Both characters also seem to look up to one another, like how Nagisa admires Karma’s bright personality, while Karma respects Nagisa’s hidden ability. Over the course of the anime and manga, their friendship gradually deepens even more. It is pretty evident that Karma and Nagisa immensely understand and trust each other, thus why they were voted as the 2nd best pairing in the poll.

1. Yuuri Katsuki and Victor Nikiforov from Yuri!!! On ICE

  • Episodes: 12
  • Air Date: Oct. 2016 - Dec. 2016

Although Yuuri is considered one of the top skaters in his community, he seems to have this anxiety during performances which makes him prone to mistakes during the real deal. That’s why it wasn’t really a surprise that Yuuri is once again defeated during his Grand Prix Finals. Because another loss was added under his belt, his ice skating career is currently on hiatus. During his stay at his hometown, Hesetsu, he perfectly performs Victor’s free skate routine, “Stay Close to Me”, in the skating rink that he frequents. Unbeknownst to him, he was being filmed and the video has gone viral on the internet. Before Yuuri can fully grasp what is happening around him, his idol and inspiration, Victor, is directly standing in front of him, proclaiming to be his new coach.

It’s not really a surprise that Yuuri and Victor gained the first spot in the poll. After all, they immediately stole our hearts, not only with their amazing performances but also with their way of showing their love and support to one another. The development in their love story was nicely done as it presents the wonderful relationship between them without the need to focus on it. We commonly see Yuuri and Victor together as coach and student, however, some of their simple gestures can bring butterflies to our stomach. Like how Victor puts lip balm on Yuuri’s lips, or how Yuuri pokes at Victor’s head. It’s also worth to note how they constantly think of each other. Examples of this are when Yuuri accepts the fact that he stole Victor from everybody else and doesn’t even regret it, and how Victor always finds ways to make Yuuri rely on him and to aid him in his performances.
