10. Akiha Toono from Shingetsutan Tsukihime (Lunar Legend Tsukihime)

  • Episodes: 12
  • Aired: Oct. 2003 – Dec. 2003

Akiha is the older sister to adopted brother Shiki. After being forced to live apart for a long time because of a mysterious incident that happens to Shiki, Akiha calls him back to the main house. She’s very protective of him and in fact used the powers of her non-human blood to save his life during said incident.

What does this have to do with hair? I’ll tell you! Because Akiha is supporting two lives, she requires more heat/life force than a normal person. She fulfills this need with her inescapable Caging Hair, which can cover the whole area her target is in and drain the energy of any living creature she can see. She can also use her hair as a weapon by extending it and give the sensation of burning to those she steals energy from with her attack. Unfortunately for her, her power is only strong against normal people with no spiritual powers.

9. Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo

  • Episodes: 76
  • Aired: Nov. 2003 – Sep. 2005

Bobobo is a strange, strange man. But he’s a strange man who fights for the good guys. He has a shiny 24-karat afro and a small colony of creatures living in his nostrils who help him out when he fights. Oh, and squirrels live in his afro too. He’s big and muscular and while he can be silly and cracks (bad) jokes most of the time, he gets very serious when he fights a tough opponent.

As ridiculous as Bobobo is, he is a fighter of justice and his special ability involves using his hair to whip or immobilize his enemies. Not the 24-karat afro hair, though. He uses his nose hair. Yes, gross. I know. But with that unique of a hair-fighting ability, how could I leave him out!? With moves like “Fist of the Nose Hair” and “Snot Fo-You”, Bobobo certainly earned his place in the list…. Gross.

8. Kumadori from One Piece

  • Episodes: 747+
  • Aired: Oct. 1999 – Currently airing

Kumadori is a former member of CP9. He looks like a Kabuki character and moves and sounds like one too. As a member of CP9, he is superhumanly strong and he can use all six of the Rokushiki superhuman martial arts. And because he’s a hermit, like his mother, he can manipulate his body to quickly digest and metabolize food and he can use his prehensile hair as a fighting tool.

His long, light pink hair is his main go-to weapon, and he uses it to reach for, grab, bind and choke enemies. And like other hair wielders on this list, he can compress his hair into the shape of hands and use them for grabbing as well as punching and fighting in general. He almost killed Nami and Chopper had to resort to several Rumble Balls, including his Monster Point to finally put an end to Kumadori’s attacks.

7. Jiraiya from Naruto

  • Episodes: 220
  • Aired: Oct. 2002 – Feb. 2007

Jiraiya is one of the Three Legendary Ninja a.k.a. Sannin from Konoha. He is also Naruto’s teacher, can summon toads to aid him in battle(o r anything else), and he can use Sage Mode which enhances his strength and gives him access to other abilities. As a Toad Sage, he mostly uses toad-like abilities, sealing, barriers and such. However, he can also make use of his hair!

Jiraiya is able to grow and manipulate his hair in order to bind or destroy targets and to form a protective spiky barrier around him which injures any who approach him. He can also use Hair Needle Senbon which basically turns hair into hard needles and launches them at the enemy either one by one or clumped together to make larger spears. When he’s in Sage mode, the technique is enhanced and gives him accelerated hair growth and allows for an inescapable and limitless high-speed attack.

6. Nenki Mino from Basilisk: Kouga Ninpou Chou (Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls)

  • Episodes: 24
  • Aired: Apr. 2005 – Sep. 2005

Nenki Mino is one of the ten ninja sent by the Iga Clan to fight in the war against the Kouga to decide who the next Shogun would be. Nenki looks like a werewolf at first glance, but considering that all the ninja in the war use their bodies as weapons, it is no surprise. Nenki has fur and hair all over (this one has pretty intense nose hair too) and he uses it as a deadly ninja weapon.

Nenki can use the hair on his body – yes, even the nose hair – to grab and catch opponents or weapons and to strangle and immobilize. He can also use it to swing from trees and such and can turn himself into a sort of giant hedgehog when he stiffens his hair into long, deadly needles! Never mind werewolf, he’s all kinds of beasts in one!

5. Bruford from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

  • Episodes: 26
  • Aired: Oct. 2012 – Apr. 2013

Bruford is one of the Dark Knights and is a zombie created from the corpse of a strong British warrior. Once filled with hatred for all humanity after his loved one was murdered (even after death), being defeated by Jonathan frees his soul and he feels human again, but still retains his fighting ability and pride as a Knight.

When he was still alive, Bruford could use his hair as a weapon by grabbing people and things and distracting opponents. As a zombie, his “Dance Macabre Hair” is even stronger and he is able to use it to wield swords, expand it, surround enemies, and lift over 100 kilograms with it. He can also use it to pierce his opponent, and as an undead, he can suck their blood through his hair after skewering them! Eek.

4. Yami / Golden Darkness from To-LOVE-Ru

  • Episodes: 26
  • Aired: Apr. 2008 – Sep. 2008

Yami is an assassin sent by one of Lala’s suitors to terminate Rito and get rid of the competition. She looks like she’s 11 though she’s thousands of years old and she has nano-machines running through her body. These nano-machines give her super human strength and powers, among which is her most notable trait, hair manipulation.

While Yami has many other abilities, here we’ll focus on her hair. She can control its movements, lengthen it to reach her opponents (or Rito) as well as transform it into pretty much any solid object she desires or needs like blades, hammers, giant fists and even dragon heads! And if that wasn’t enough, she can create a functional puppet out of her golden locks too! Meanwhile, I can barely get my hair to behave in a ponytail…

3. Flare Corona from Fairy Tail

  • Episodes: 175
  • Aired: Oct. 2009 – Mar. 2013

Flare Corona is a Mage of the Raven Tail Guild. We first see Flare in action during the Grand Magic Games. She is very fair skinned, and has very long bright red hair that she wears in two braids that tie behind her back. She has a psychotic look on her face, and her movements are creepy. And the fact that she keeps obsessively calling Lucy “Blondie” doesn’t help. And she can be pretty sadistic when she fights.

This brings us back to her hair. Flare uses hair magic to manipulate the length (which seems to be limitless), hardness and shape of her hair, which allows her to reach, grab and slam her opponents into the ground as well as dig with it. She can also stop bullets and create a live wolf with it! As if that wasn’t enough, she can burn things and opponents by manipulating her hair’s temperature, use it as bullets or tiny little scattering bombs! Crazy chick!

2. Tora from Ushio to Tora

  • Episodes: 26
  • Aired: Jul. 2015 – Dec. 2015

Tora, known in ancient times as Nagatobimaru, is a powerful feline-looking Yokai that had been sealed by the sacred spear until Ushio released him and gave him his new name because of his appearance (Tora means Tiger in Japanese). He is extremely powerful and feared by other Yokai but has become the all-time nice-guy Ushio’s partner and so now uses his powers for good. Mostly.

Tora is covered in orange fur and has a huge spiky mane, and while he wields the power of lightning, he can also take full advantage of his long hair. In fact, his lightning seems to come from his mane. Other than that, he can grab with it, transform it into blades, stop bullets, and transform chunks of it into believable – though emotionless – clones of people. Tora’s hair also doubles as a tracking device, as he can find whoever has a strand of his hair and breaks it! If only I could get my hands on one…

1. Sunny from Toriko

  • Episodes: 147
  • Aired: Apr. 2011 – Mar. 2014

Sunny is a beautiful and strong member of the Four Heavenly Kings. He has long multicolored hair, has a very delicate way of speaking and judges people by the beauty of their actions. His incredible strength and “sensor” abilities make him dangerous when upset and a worthy foe when it comes to both battle and finding the harmony he seeks in his dishes.

Coincidentally, his strength, sensor, and multicolored hair are all connected. The different colors of his hair signify the use of each strand. With it, he can detect different temperatures, pressure and pain and each strand can lift 50 pounds. On top of that, his hair can reach 25 feet in length, and Sunny can use it to punch, cut and impale by forming his hair into different shapes. He can also immobilize prey and “taste” them at the same time since his hairs are so sensitive. (Yum?)

Because the hairs are so thin and powerful, Sunny can enter his prey’s body and control it like a puppet, and he can still do this if the strands have been cut off! He can perform surgery, form a functional raft, catch fish, and swat away attacks. And if his hair turns golden, you should run because, while it puts a big strain on him, he is unstoppable. I think Sunny easily takes the 1st place in the Top 10 Anime Characters with Prehensile Hair!
