Top 10 Ecchi Light Novels [Updated Best Recommendations]

When you think “ecchi,” you probably think risqué anime and fan-service-filled manga. But thanks to excellent illustrations, full-color in-flap artwork, and the power of the human imagination, light novels can also be a treasure trove of ecchi content!

Today on Honey’s Anime, we’re refreshing our list of the Top 10 Ecchi Light Novels, filled with all the boob gags, panty-shots, and swimsuit dates that you need in 2022!

10. No Game No Life

  • Authors: Kamiya Yuu
  • Genres: Ecchi, Harem, Romance, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Supernatural
  • Volumes: 10+
  • Published: April 2015 — present

We’re kicking this list off with a perennial treasure trove of ecchi content, No Game No Life. Despite the much-maligned release schedule, the light novels are still excellent (as were the visual-acid-trip anime and movie), and definitely have the ecchi content you’re looking for!

Brother/sister team Sora and Shiro have an abnormally close relationship, so if you’re looking for some siscon ecchi, you’re in luck. Volume 1’s in-flap artwork showcases Shiro and traveling companion Steph completely nude, so you know what you’re getting in for before the very first page!

There are also plenty of boob gags and pervy content along the way, usually at poor Steph’s expense, thanks to the nature of the “game world” that governs this semi-isekai story. No Game No Life is so ecchi it was infamously banned in Australia (this writer’s country), so that’s a recommendation in itself!

9. Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaa-san wa Suki desu ka? (Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?)

  • Authors: Inaka Dachima (Story), Iida Pochi (Art)
  • Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Harem, Romance, Seinen
  • Volumes: 11 (Complete)
  • Published: November 2018 - December 2021

From siscon to momcon?! For our shameless MILF lovers, you’ll love the yummy-mommy content of Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaa-san wa Suki desu ka? (Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?). Teenager Masato battles an Oedipus complex when he’s sucked into an MMO with his unusually young, vibrant, and extremely busty mother, Mamako!

For the reader, that means more boob gags than you can shake a stick at, with a Freudian complex for Mamako’s mama milkers! It’s best not to take this series too seriously, but thanks to Masato’s inner monologue, the ecchi content is funnier and just a bit smuttier than the anime adaptation — so it’s worth a second look if you already watched the adaptation!

8. Psycome

  • Authors: Mizushiro Mizuki (Story), Namanie (Art)
  • Genres: Action, Comedy, Ecchi, Harem, Psychological, Romance
  • Volumes: 6+
  • Published: June 2016 — present

Billed as a “Psycho Love Comedy”, Psycome is one of the rare stories with an actual yandere (crazy with a capital ‘C’) love interest. Sentenced on false charges to a “rehabilitation school”, main character Kyousuke finds himself surrounded by punks, thugs, and — gorgeous girls?! He mistakenly attracts the affections of the hugely busty Renko…but if he ever allows himself to fall in love with her, she’ll remove her infamous gas mask, and murder him!

Of course, Renko will do everything in her power to make Kyousuke fall for her, including using her ample assets to her advantage! Cue a plethora of panty-shots, accidental boob-face-plants, and some truly wonderful artwork from the series’ artist Namanie! If you’ve been hunting for a sexy yandere female lead, Psycome might be just the right “punishment” for you!

7. Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan (Chivalry Of a Failed Knight)

  • Authors: Misora Riku (Story), Won (Art)
  • Genres: Action, Comedy, Drama, Ecchi, Fantasy, Romance, School Life
  • Volumes: 5+
  • Published: November 2019 — present

Released six years after its Japanese debut, Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan (Chivalry Of a Failed Knight) offers a pretty standard tsundere female lead and a hopeless-but-strong-willed male main character. Set against the backdrop of “mage-knight” combat, our main characters must work together as magicians and knights to rise to the top of their school’s academy!

Essentially a more ecchi Asterisk War, Chivalry of a Failed Knight picks up a win on our list for constantly finding ways to put leading lady Stella in compromising positions, while also developing an actual relationship with her seemingly useless knight, Ikki. Being forced to live and work together creates some good tension and steamy moments, and Won’s artwork brings Stella’s magic — and body — to life in beautiful illustrations.

6. Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou (Arifureta: From Commonplace To World’s Strongest)

  • Authors: Shirakome Ryou (Story), TakayaKi (Art)
  • Genres: Action, Adventure, Drama, Ecchi, Fantasy, Harem, Romance
  • Volumes: 11+
  • Published: February 2018 — present

From having the weakest skill in a new fantasy world, main character Hajime grows to become a god-slayer with a harem of uniquely beautiful girls — and the original light novels are excellently ecchi in that regard. From having “intimate” relations with pint-sized Yue, to fending off the advances of the busty bunny girl Shea, Hajime has his hands full of trouble! (Metaphorically full, of course. Yue might be a powerful sorceress but she’s…a little lacking in the chest department…)

That’s to say nothing of Tio, a shape-shifting dragon who puts the horny in “horned dragon”, or Hajime’s old classmate and crush, Kaori. Eventually, a polyamorous relationship forms among the harem; so everyone ends up a winner (but mostly the readers)!

5. Choppiri Toshiue Demo Kanojo ni Shite Kuremasu ka? (Are You Okay With a Slightly Older Girlfriend?)

  • Authors: Nozomi Kota
  • Genres: Comedy, Drama, Ecchi, Romance
  • Volumes: 6+
  • Published: February 2021 – present

This is a sugary-sweet romance with a twelve-year age gap between high-schooler Momota and his office-worker girlfriend, Orihara! Both clueless in love, this earnest couple have to navigate societal expectations and their own unique clumsiness in the world of romance!

Orihara has the oppai of your dreams, and her awkward stabs at a relationship include some hilariously ecchi moments like preparing for the “first time” staying over with her boyfriend, or trying to find a swimsuit that’ll fit her ample bosom. Choppiri Toshiue Demo Kanojo ni Shite Kuremasu ka? (Are You Okay With a Slightly Older Girlfriend?) tends to focus more on the actual relationship in this age-gap without delving too deeply into drama, so sit back and enjoy this simple ecchi rom-com!

4. Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta (My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex)

  • Authors: Kamishiro Kyousuke (Story), TakayaKi (Art)
  • Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School Life
  • Volumes: 1+
  • Published: February 2022 — present

After a messy breakup, the last thing Mizuto and Yume want is to ever see the other again... but when their parents remarry, this ex-couple finds themselves sharing a house, and a surname! The bitter feelings from their failed relationship still remain, but their attraction to each other is also still there, now heightened thanks to the “taboo” of their step-sibling relationship.

Less overtly ecchi than some of the other entries on this list, Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta (My Stepmom's Daughter Is My Ex) has a lot of steamy moments as Mizuto and Yume realize they still have feelings for each other. There are some great scenes like stealing the other’s underwear, or going too far with accidental run-ins after a shower — so this is definitely worth a read, especially if you want a romantic drama as well.

3. Magical☆Explorer - Eroge no Yuujin Kyara ni Tensei Shita Kedo, Game Chishiki Tsukatte Jiyuu ni Ikiru (Magical☆Explorer: Reborn as a Side Character in a Fantasy Dating Sim)

  • Authors: Iris (Story), Kannatsuki Noboru (Art)
  • Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Harem, Romance, Seinen
  • Volumes: 2+
  • Published: December 2021 — present

When you think “dating sim reincarnation”, you’re probably thinking of soft shoujo otome isekai novels with elements of magic or drama. Well, how about an ecchi fantasy where a male character gets reincarnated into an erotic dating sim?! Welcome to Magical☆Explorer - Eroge no Yuujin Kyara ni Tensei Shita Kedo, Game Chishiki Tsukatte Jiyuu ni Ikiru (Magical☆Explorer: Reborn as a Side Character in a Fantasy Dating Sim)!

Magical☆Explorer, despite its premise, is a lot less ecchi than you might imagine, and focuses more on the dungeon exploration and magic than the eroge elements. That said, there’s some truly hilarious commentary on players of these adult video games, along with some excellent artwork and ecchi tropes. In all fairness, Magical☆Explorer is actually a much better story than its title and premise would suggest, so check it out when you have the time!

2. High School DxD

  • Authors: Ishibumi Ichiei (Story), Miyama-Zero (Art)
  • Genres: Comedy, Drama, Ecchi, Harem, Mature, Romance, Shounen, Supernatural
  • Volumes: 5+
  • Published: October 2020 — present

Finally limping its way to an official English release some twelve years after its Japanese debut, the legendarily ecchi series High School DxD immediately got banned in this writer’s home country (Australia), which, if you haven’t noticed, is starting to form a bit of a pattern. Saltiness about certain Australian senators aside, we can happily recommend this aging classic thanks to its unabashed ecchi-ness.

Even a decade or more after its release, including spin-off manga and novels, and an anime that sadly got censored in the later seasons, High School DxD remains a classic ecchi fantasy. With superb, fully uncensored artwork, and a story that manages to weave drama, magic, and ecchi together, it’s pretty hard not to recommend this classic — even if it's starting to show its age just a bit.

1. Ore Dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon: Kossori Kitaete Sekai Saikyou (The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter)

  • Authors: Seto Meguru (Story), Takehana Note (Art)
  • Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Harem, Shounen
  • Volumes: 6+
  • Published: July 2020 — present

All the way from the euphemism in the title down to the impeccable artwork, Ore Dake Haireru Kakushi Dungeon: Kossori Kitaete Sekai Saikyou (The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter) is a masterclass in modern ecchi fantasy. Complete with a dungeon-crawling setting and a rags-to-riches main character with cheat skills, the ecchi humor truly elevates this light novel above other harem isekai.

There are plenty of ecchi moments we love in The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter, from passionate kissing having the ability to restore mana, to using cheat skills to alter girls’ boob sizes. Coupled with a genuinely fun story and some cool magic, you’ve got an entertaining and modern ecchi isekai that pushes the envelope, but never at the expense of its enjoyment!

That’s okay Honey’s Anime has always got your back with recommending Dawnbringer: The Story of the Machine God. This amalgamation of genres works incredibly well thanks to author Hong Jung Hoon who makes a wonderful story not seen too often in mecha works. While still currently working we can’t say we know how the series will end unfortunately but we can say that so far it’s a very intriguing read and that’s coming from the mouths of other fans who have dabbled in this tale. Dawnbringer: The Story of the Machine God takes our third spot and it deserves it for being such a great read so far.

  • Authors: USEU Tetsuto- Tamago no Kimi
  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Ecchi, Comedy, Fantasy, Harem, Mature, Romance, Seinen, Supernatural
  • Volumes: 11 (Hiatus)
  • Published Date: May, 2010- Present

Akatsuki Osawa is regarded as a hero, though maybe his other nickname “the rogue hero” is more fitting. After having just defeated the demon king, Akatsuki takes the demon king’s daughter with him back to his own world. Myuu is at first confused as to why he would do this but in time she understand that this was her father’s last wish. Now going to Akatsuki’s school for warriors in training, it seems she is about to discover a new life. However, can Myuu focus on school with perverted Akatsuki making her life a bit harder?

Our lists ends on Hagure Yuusha no Kichiku Bigaku and we saved the most ecchi for last. Cute girls, a busty main female lead and a perverted hero just is the ultimate staple of an ecchi work. USEU Tetsuto really knows how to keep a story comedic at times, ecchi at other moments and all around amazing to behold. Unfortunately, we do wonder about the series concluding as it has been on hiatus for some time but we keep our fingers crossed it will return. Until then if you do finish the light novel series we do recommend checking out the anime for even more ecchi harem goodness; just to be honest the light novel does it better.
