Top 10 Gory Anime Games [Best Recommendations]

The term ‘gore’ can be classified in a variety of ways, many of which form around excessive use of blood, gratuitous violence, and explicit scenes that most children would need to stay away from to avoid being paranoid. That isn’t to say that grown people can’t be grossed out either, since that’s pretty much the premise of creating a gory game to begin with. These are the types of games that are purposely created in a way to create shock factor, to illicit a response from the player and see just how they react to a particular scenario within the game. Gory titles aren’t necessarily trying to sell you on a good story although some games do come with one, they’re supposed to tickle your imagination and leave you questioning everything. There are plenty of gory anime game titles out there, so let’s take a look at our top ten to see just which one takes the top spot.

  • System/Platform: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows
  • Publisher: Sierra Entertainment

In spite of F.E.A.R. not really taking on a true anime like appearance, it does take a lot of inspiration from popular films and anime. You’re a soldier that must track down a girl with supernatural powers, but along that journey you’ll be faced with an array of challenges and scary moments. F.E.A.R. is just like the title expresses, there’s nowhere to run and you’ll need to rely on your sound judgement to make the right decisions, while avoiding near death at every corner.

The enemies are unforgiving and not only will they come at you at random times, but the game will honestly mess with your head in a variety of ways. It’s truly a psychological maze as you try to make your way through this unknown path, encountering relentless creatures who will stop at nothing to ensure you die on the spot. Using whatever weapon you have in your arsenal, taking the heads off these things is the only way to go and bring you one step closer to finding this mysterious young girl.

5. Resident Evil Zero

  • Developer: Capcom
  • Release Date: November 12, 2002

There’s no arguing that Resident Evil is one of the most gory titles out there on the market, and continues to have a massive following embracing its incredible action along with gripping storylines. While every RE game is different in terms of location, the gameplay still remains very much intact as your mission is blast your way through a horde of enemies (mainly zombies), and uncover clues in order to put the story all together. Resident Evil Zero for the first time, allowed players to control two characters on screen for a more challenging experience, while still giving you an array of options to choose from in order to annihilate the enemy.

While Killer 7 came and gone years ago on the Gamecube and PlayStation 2, we simply can’t ignore this dark noir-esque title at all. There’s a lot of great story behind this classic title, along with very unique visuals that stood out among the rest of the games at the time. Grasshopper Manufacture, the same mastermind behind the most recent Let it Die and the cult favorite No More Heroes, took players into a gritty gang infested environment where no holds were barred and everyone was out for the top spot.

With an array of deadly weapons to choose from, Killer 7 demonstrated just how gory a game can be when you allow it. Samurai Swords, automatic weapons and other juicy tools in your arsenal make this title so satisfying to play for hours. Let us not forget the amount of blood that’s just splattered all over the screen when you slice your way through groups of thugs who stand in your way, or blowing someone’s head clean off with a handgun. Ninja Gaiden Black takes just about every positive aspect from past iterations of the game, and throws in extra modes along with fast paced blood spilling gameplay to have you addicted for hours.

The finer aspects behind Ninja Gaiden Black is certainly its story, which is well detailed enough to keep you immersed, but it’s unlocking the Master Ninja mode that will truly make the experience that much richer. Funny enough, people complained so much about the game's difficulty that producer Itagaki put in a mode titled Ninja Dog, where certain characters in the game would actually mock Ryu throughout the story.
