In the past, polygamous relationships were considered to be normal when it comes to a man having more than one wife. The same cannot be said for women. Men have higher sex drives than women, and in the olden days, effective contraception did not exist and many women died from childbirth. Therefore, those polygamous relationships existed for practical reasons too. However, women also enjoy being loved by many men, so reverse harem genre exists to fulfill this fantasy of women! If you would like to indulge in a fantasy of reverse harem, we highly recommend these 10 manga listed below:

10. Heart no Kuni no Alice (Alice in the Country of Hearts)

  • Mangaka: Hoshino, Soumei (Art), QuinRose (Story)
  • Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Shoujo, Harem
  • Volumes: 6
  • Published Date: 2008 to Sep 2010

Alice Liddell is insecure when she compares herself with her sister’s beauty and grace. One day while she falls asleep, a white rabbit encourages her to chase it. Alice ignores the rabbit, thinking that she is dreaming but the rabbit turns into a man (Peter White) and throws Alice in a hole which leads her to Heartland/Wonderland. She is then forced to play a mysterious game after Peter White kissed her.

Heart no Kuni no Alice is no doubt inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Even though it is a reverse harem, it is not so simply as to have many guys vying for Alice’s attention. There were other things discussed in this manga series such as relationship of the characters and the value of life. Her insecurities, when compared to her sister, is also something that many girls can relate to. Thus, it makes her an identifiable heroine.

9. Sennen no Yuki (Millennium Snow)

  • Mangaka: Hatori, Bisco:
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Shoujo, Vampire, Supernatural
  • Volumes: 4
  • Published Date: Nov 2000 to Dec 2013:

Chiyuki Matsuoka is born with a weak heart and is expected to live until 15 years old. One day she meets a vampire named Touya Kanou who has the opposite problem. He lives too long, which is about 1000 years. It is the custom of vampires of his age (18) to find a human partner to be with him for 1000 years. Hence, Chiyuki offers her blood so she can live longer.

This is a story about a weak girl who gets caught in a love triangle involving a vampire and a werewolf. Doesn’t that sound eerily like Twilight?! Just cast your fears away if you are not a Twilight fan as Sennen no Yuki is a more lighthearted version with main characters who have very different personalities from the ones in Twilight. Although Chiyuki may seem quite bland at first, this is due to her sickness and not her true personality which is apparent when she becomes more lively after being bitten by Touya, which shows. Vampires are often portrayed as seductive creatures, but Touya serve as a grumpy comic relief here

8. Barajou no Kiss (Kiss of the Rose Princess)

  • Mangaka: Shouoto, Aya
  • Genre: Comedy, Mystery, Drama, Fantasy, Romance, School, Shoujo, Harem, Supernatural
  • Volumes: 4
  • Published: Jun 2008 to Dec 2011

Anis Yamamoto was given a rose choker by her father when she was a child. Her father told her that it was a protective amulet, and she would be afflicted with punishment should she ever take it off. After she loses her choker due to an incident, Anis receives 4 cards which enables her to summon her Rose Rhode knights. She then finds out that she is a Rose Princess.

Many times, when it comes to reverse harem manga, some characters would be prioritized over others. Hence, it would be unlucky for you if you happen to prefer the other character who gets pushed out of the spotlight. However, in Barajou no Kiss, the author keeps the balancing act quite well, so your favorite main cast member has a chance to shine! It is a series that does not take itself too seriously so you will not feel overwhelmed by a bunch of emotions.

7. Tennen Pearl Pink

  • Mangaka: Tanaka, Meca
  • Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 4
  • Published: 2002 to 2004

Kanji's father runs an idol agency, whereas Tamoko is the daughter of their top-selling idol named Shinju. To save public face, Tamoko tries to hide the secret that she is Shinju’s daughter. Kanji and Tamoko were actually childhood friends but Kanji does not seem to remember her. They actually made a promise to get married when they were kids so Tamoko is determined to be an ideal wife. However, she is clumsy and terrible with domestic chores.

This manga series is cute and does not have any draggy bits as every chapter has a purpose. The heroine’s growth is apparent in the manga that Tamoko almost seems like she has become an entirely different character. The other love interests seem to be more engrossed with Tamoko unlike the main love interest. Nevertheless, all the main casts are lovable!

6. Aa Itoshi no Banchou-sama (My Darling! Miss Bancho)

  • Mangaka: Fujikata, Mayu
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 5
  • Published: Oct 2005 to Apr 2009

Hirayama Hayaka transferred to an industrial high school as a result of her family issues. Previously, she studied in a private high school. When she enters into her new school, Hayaka is shocked to discover that she is the only girl there, and there are 850 boys in the school. Besides that, there are also gangsters whom her classmate, Katuo Yuuni, happens to have a conflict with.

Aa Itoshi no Banchou-sama definitely has an unrealistic plot with its reverse harem setting of 1 girl and 850 boys. Therefore, you should definitely watch this series if you have ever wondered what it would be like with this insane ratio of reverse harem. If you are seeking for an easy to read and a non-serious manga with tons of humor and ridiculous situations, then look no further than this manga series. The romance is not serious but after all, it is a school manga.

5. Haru Matsu Bokura (Waiting for Spring)

  • Mangaka: Anashin
  • Genre: Romance, School, Shoujo
  • Volumes: Unknown
  • Published: Feb 2014 to ?

Mizuki is a shy girl who wants to step out of her shell in high school. However, she has to face the challenge of getting along with 4 dashing guys from the Basketball Club, especially when there are rumors in school about how they met. Even though she was careful in the beginning, Mizuki eventually gets to know the true colors of the 4 guys.

Take a heroine who is shy, lonely, and has problems socializing with others, and dump her with a group of handsome guys. This is a common reverse harem plot which is imperative to appeal to the average girl who is having said issues. Definitely a must-read manga for those who are introvert and lack social skills! It sounds like a stereotypical plot but this type of plot is successful for a reason that many people can relate to it!

4. Penguin Kakumei (Penguin Revolution)

  • Mangaka: Tsukuba, Sakura
  • Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 7
  • Published: Aug 2004 to Dec 2007

Yukari Fujimaru is a high school student who has the ability to detect a potential star as she can see that those people have an aura in the form of angelic wings. She can see that her friend, Ryouko Katsuragi, has a small pairs of wings. Ryouko Katsuragi is so talented that nobody knows that “her” true identity as a boy. Yukari is determined to help Ryouko become a star, and she has to disguise as a boy when she becomes his manager!

Now this is a unique one in this list due to its gender bender theme alongside its reverse harem theme. Even though the heroine is surrounded by handsome guys and could choose among the 3 of them, the romance is quite faint. The ending is also not definite and when you read the manga, you would feel unsure who to really root for. Therefore, this reverse harem manga is more suitable for those who do not looking for a strong romance theme. The series is not the typical gender bender series involving many awkward sexual situations to serve as humour. It focuses on the interesting development of a rookie to a star.

3. Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden

  • Mangaka: Watase, Yuu
  • Genre: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy, Historical, Romance, Shoujo, Gender Bender
  • Volumes: 12
  • Published: Mar 2003 to Feb 2013

Takiko Okuda lives in the Taisho Era who has to remain strong in spite of her problems. The man she loved named Oosugi is married, her mother is critically sick, and her dad named Einosuke has not come back home for more than one year. Einosuke finally returns with a notebook, "The Universe of the Four Gods", which appears to be more vital to him than his wife’s death. This angers Takiko who steals the notebook and intends to tear it.

This manga series is a prequel to Fushigi Yuugi which is a popular series. However, you do not need to read Fushigi Yuugi to understand what’s going on in Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden. It may be better if you have not read Fushigi Yuugi so you would not know the predetermined ending in Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden. This reverse harem manga is mature, emotional, and tragic so it is not a series you want to read when you feel like reading a happy-go-lucky manga. The series has a strong theme on forgiveness and sacrifices. The romance is subtle and slow so it does not appear redundant.

2. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (The Wallflower)

  • Mangaka: Hayakawa, Tomoko
  • Genre: Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo
  • Volumes: 36
  • Published: Mar 2000 to Jan 2015

Sunako was called ugly by the only person she confessed her feelings to. Thereafter, she hardly cares about beauty. This worried her aunt who owns a big mansion where 4 dashing high school guys live. Her aunt asks the guys to turn her niece into a proper lady. In return, the guys would be able to continue to live in the mansion for free.

The Wallflower is a reverse harem tale that depicts the humorous tale of Sunako who has to face many unwanted situations to become a lady with the help of 4 handsome guys. Despite its comedy factor, this series actually has a really good storyline. It is not unusual for girls to have low self-esteem, so this manga series would cheer you up in spite of your low confidence!

1. Ouran Koukou Host Club (Ouran High School Host Club)

  • Mangaka: Hatori, Bisco
  • Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance, School, Shoujo, Harem, Gender Bender
  • Volumes: 18
  • Published: Jul 2002 to Sep 2010

Haruhi stands out for being a poor girl in Ouran High School Host Club which is filled with students from filthy rich families. Haruhi mistakenly enters the meeting room of the host club when she is searching for a nice place to study. As Haruhi tries to leave, she breaks an expensive vase, and is thus recruited as a host club member in order to pay her debts. As Haruhi looks like a boy with short hair, not many people know that she is actually a girl!

In this reverse harem series, pretty much the rest of the 6 host club members have some feelings for Haruhi. However, it is pretty clear who the main love interest is. Regardless, the friendship between the main cast is really endearing and entertaining. There isn’t a substantial plot which makes it great for casual reading!
