Top 4 Guilty Pleasure Anime [Spring 2017]

We all have them. Our guilty pleasure anime are anime we love to watch and for some reason, we just cannot stop watching them. When spring debuted, there were just too many shows to figure out what was going to be good and what was not. However, now that it is in full swing, we know what is good, what is meh, what is bad, and what our guilty pleasures are. Check out what we have chosen this season for our guilty pleasures!

1. Room Mate

I have a confession to make - I hated One Room. It was boring as all hell and I couldn’t make it through more than three of the four-minute anime. But switch out those flat female characters for pretty boys and what can I say, it does the trick. So what makes it my guilty pleasure? Well for one, I don’t even like the characters. Sports boy is stereotypically boring, Blondie is annoying as well as bland, and the one guy I should have loved - the Sadistic Elitist - is played by a guy whose voice tends to grate on me. However, you get those 2D boys naked and moaning and I am 100% there. I can get over the tropes, the bad animation, and the pure, unfiltered cringe. I might have to watch every episode through my fingers, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to stop watching it - and heck, it’s only four minutes of my day. What is there to lose?

2. Love Kome -WE LOVE RICE-

Okay, first things first, I love rice. It’s true. But do you know what I love more than rice? PUNS. That’s literally the only reason why I’m even watching Love Kome this season. Sure, there’s the pretty idol boys. Which would normally be enough to draw me in, even with something as boring as this anime. Much like Room Mate, the fact that it’s so short also helps. But the main reason why I can’t stop watching Love Kome is the rice-based puns. I feel genuinely sorry for anyone who doesn’t speak Japanese trying to watch this anime, and I feel even more sorry for the people attempting to translate it into something that gets across the hidden meanings behind every other sentence. However, a lot of me just doesn’t care all that much, because puns really do soothe the pain. As the characters of this show say at least once every episode, donmai!

3. sin Nanatsu no Taizai

This sounds almost terrible, but it is so true: I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS SERIES. I’ll admit, sexy ecchi anime is not my thing and generic school harems like the ones on air now send me running away, but there is just something about anime like this, Masou Gakuen HxH, and Queen’s Blade. I think it has to do with just how far they take it every time, that makes me enjoy it. Sure, this anime has no real plot and no one really cares what happens for the most part, but there is just something about how ridiculously taboo the aforementioned shows are and sin Nanatsu no Taizai is the same. The censorship is really annoying, but honestly it could be worse and I am not going to complain because there have been plenty of accidental slips. This includes when Leviathan is on the pole dancing. I will be sad to see it go when it does, but for the time being, I am enjoying this ratchet hot mess of an anime weekly.

4. Tsugumomo

After years and years of not having a cringey main character who is weak and cannot decide things, we finally have one in Kazuya! I loved Tenchi Muyo! And while I feel like many shows have tried and failed to copy its success, there is just something about the way that Tsugumomo does it, that just makes it right. Sure, it's a second rate Tenchi Muyo as far as I am concerned because nothing could ever touch it, but Tsugumomo has the right elements that it could have become a good post-Tenchi show. That being said, I still laugh at the stupid humor that we have not seen for a while, and there are many parallels to be drawn to Tenchi. The way Kukuri and Kiriha fight is reminiscent of Ayeka and Ryoko’s fighting, Chisato is Sasami, and Kokuyou is clearly Mihoshi-esque in nature. The show, while tawdry, is still worth all of the laughs it causes and I’m going to keep watching.
