Introduction
We might not get all that much Boys Love anime, but that doesn’t stop us BL fans. Where there’s multiple boys there will be boy on boy ships, no matter what the genre of anime. But which ships from the current season have sailed away with our hearts this season? With spring coming to a close, it’s time to take a look at the boys we ship the hardest. Here we go!
5. Kurogo Kurusu x Tombo Murase (Kabukibu!)
Kurogo has a dream - to start a Kabuki club. Who supports his dream the hardest? Tombo, of course! These childhood friends make an adorable pairing, with Kurogo being upbeat and out there and Tombo being more subdued but no less passionate. What’s more, we can really see how much these two care for each other. No matter what decisions Kurogo makes, Tombo is always there by his side, helping him out. What would Kurogo do without him? Luckily, they’ll never have to find out, as Kurogo always keeps Tombo at his side. Bless.
4. Yuuta Hoshitana x Riku Ageha (Starmyu 2nd Season)
Last season of Starmyu was all about Yuuta and poor, poor Nayuki, who famously got shot down. While there’s always an undercurrent of Yuuta x Ootori-senpai, this season we have a new potential ship: Yuuta and Ageha. What makes this ship new and exciting for Starmyu is the pure tension and rivalry between these two. Yuuta is always trying to get Ageha to see their similarities, only for Ageha to point out their differences. Putting them side to side, they’re like night and day. But that just adds to the shipping potential. Will these two manage to get closer before the season is up? Here’s hoping!
3. Fen Shi x Xin Kai (Ani ni Tsukeru Kusuri wa Nai!)
Okay, okay. If you haven’t seen the shipping potential between these two, you probably wouldn’t know what romance looked like if it stared you in the face. I mean, they even pretended to be a couple to get free food! Plus ten shipping points to them. They’re also both equally ridiculous, and definitely bring out the worst in each other, which somehow makes them the best. I don’t know. Don’t question shipping logic. With both of them seeming to have literally no interest in girls, and spending so much time together, these boys get a big fat BL tick. Now kiss!
2. Issa Kaburagi x Ryuuhou Danchiku (Yowamushi Pedal 3rd Season)
We couldn’t talk about BL ships this season without mentioning YowaPeda’s latest pretty-much-canon couple, Kaburagi and Danchiku. Although they’ve been separated from cycling together on the track, these two have spent so much time together that they’ve become a necessity in each other’s lives. Without Danchiku, Kaburagi initially felt severe anxiety, which soon turned into something much more healthy for the both of them. Then, when he couldn’t win the sprint, it was Danchiku that first brought Kaburagi out of his guilt-filled haze. In return, Kaburagi inspires Danchiku to be the best he can be. These two are just so perfect for each other. Let’s hope we’ll get to see more scenes of them together before the season is out!
1. Shouto Todoroki x Izuku Midoriya (Boku no Hero Academia 2nd Season)
Finally, we come to our number one BL ship of spring 2017. You can’t say you didn’t see this one coming. Whereas most of us were screaming for more Deku x Bakugo in HeroAca’s first season, the second season brought with it yet another amazing Deku ship - this time with Todoroki. Unlike the explosive rivalry between Deku and Bakugo, Todoroki and Deku’s rivalry is more like a slow burn. It’s always there in the background, but there’s so much more to these two. They have a mutual respect for each other, and care about each other’s future despite being in competition. On top of that, Deku was the first person Todoroki opened up to about his past, showing that he trusts him. Deku was also the one who helped Todoroki come to terms with both sides of his powers, giving him the confidence to finally use his fire side in their face-off. In other words, these two are one hot ship!
