About BLEACH Set 02

Ichigo Kurosaki is a high school student who has always been able to see ghosts. After a run-in with Shinigami Rukia, he is caught in a battle with an otherworldly monster and ends up having to take Rukia’s powers to defeat it and save Rukia as well as all the people nearby.

Thanks precisely to this rough start, Rukia is now imprisoned in a tower in Soul Society awaiting to be executed for her misbehavior, and it’s up to Ichigo to save her. Chased by strong Shinigami, and aided by kind-hearted ones, Ichigo and company make their way to rescue Rukia. And in the midst of it all, a murder takes place that turns the situation even more intense.
VIZ Media hands us this and more by stuffing the entire second season of the hit shounen anime, Bleach, in four neatly packaged Blu-ray discs with beautiful quality and a bundle of extras.

On the Outside

Matching the box set for the 1st season -also by VIZ Media- the box showcases our main character in front of a silver background. As Rukia is the cause of all that happens in this second season, she graces the cover of both the outer sleeve, and the Blu-ray box itself. Flanked on either side by hell butterflies, wearing a simple white yukata, and looking distraught, the cover alone sets the mood for what you can find inside.

A ‘come at me bro’-faced Ichigo on the back of the sleeve hints at the fact that he’s not giving up on Rukia and is ready for anything. On the back of the Blu-ray box, we find several memorable images from some of the second season’s most important characters, like Toshiro, Renji, Kenpachi and the beautiful but always stone-faced Byakuya.

On the Inside

On the inside of the Blu-ray cover, we’re greeted by a weary and bloodied Rukia wielding her Zanpakuto on the right side, while a quote from Ichigo decorates the left.

Inside the box, there are two double-sided disc holders with a total of four Blu-ray discs, all in half black and half white. The black half has a pattern formed by linework of Ichigo’s substitute shinigami badge in white. The discs include episodes 28 to 55.

Bonus Features

Disc 4 is home to extras, which include two art galleries and behind the scenes content.

Original Japanese DVD Artwork: Cover art sometimes varies from country to country, but VIZ Media has thought of the fans and included a small gallery which includes the images that were used in the original Japanese DVD release. These are the full-sized versions of the shinigami portraits showcased on the back of the Blu-ray box.
Production Art: Of course, there is also a gallery with character design sheets that give us a glimpse into the making of Bleach. This gallery includes detailed linework ranging from Hell Butterflies to expressions, clothing, and weapons. We get to see different angles of Captain Byakuya, Hanataro, Vice Captain Izuru, Ichigo (of course), Rukia, and even some of the second season’s impressive Bankai, among many others. It is truly a chance to get close and personal with these designs and get to see details that are hard to appreciate amid all the action.
Behind the Scenes of Bleach: This is where you will find a collection of interviews with the English voice cast of the series. Well-known voice actors like Michelle Ruff (Rukia) and Wally Wingert (Renji) along with the English Dialog Director, Wendy Lee, share their experiences working on Bleach.

Honey’s Final Verdict

As fans of Bleach in general, there is no reason not to become the owner of this elegant and compact box set of the entire second season. It fits anywhere, makes a nice addition to your collection, and if you’re buying it without having seen the second season before, we can assure you, you will not be disappointed by Tite Kubo and Studio Pierrot’s creation.

The final verdict is, if your looking to complete your Blu-ray Bleach collection, getting the full second season on Set 02 is your best bet. Like we mentioned before, it’s stylish and compact (no need for a ton of Blu-ray boxes cluttering your anime shelf!), and it comes with fun extras!

Of course, if you want to get your hands on the first season set too, you can always go visit VIZ Media’s site and pick that up as well. And remember to stay tuned for more upcoming Blu-ray sets!
