Is this a spinoff of Ansatsu Kyoushitu??

It would almost seemt that way! But there is nothing supernatural about this anime. Reading the character bios and story, I already feel like this is going to be a lot like Masamune-kun no Revenge. Suzune Horikita is basically Adagaki-san all over again! I can't wait!

Ah, so this show is going to be more comedy than anything else. I see the school has a ranking system too. Will this end up like To Aru Kagaku no Railgun then?

Maybe only in the system. This show is going to be comedy. Think like Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou or Cromartie High School.

Synopsis

Is this society truly equal or not? What is true “merit”?

A high-level prep school is located in Tokyo known as Koudo Ikusei Senior High School. There, it has a policy of using the latest and greatest technology and equipment to be able to boast that 100% of its graduates either advance to college or find work immediately. Kiyotaka Ayanokouji has just been assigned to Year 1, Class D. However, while the school does have a reputation of being the most elite out there, on the inside, the school approaches things in a laissez-faire manner. The students are given cash and value points equivalent to about 1000 USD a month for classes and their personal lifestyles. Classmates engage in extravagant spending and self-indulgence while living their daily lives in what has to be a dream for high school life. However, they are about to learn the truth behind the system within the school and be thrown into the pits of despair..!

For those who have failed, they are placed into Class D where the truth they will discover is whether the world is full of contradictions, or a true, merit-based society.

Three Episode Impression

If you are a fan of Baka to Test, Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e may catch your eye. This is a school of elite students and the story focuses on Class D, which has the worst grades. While the mechanics of the school are glaringly obvious from the beginning of the story, the students find out the hard way they are supposed to take school seriously even without proper adult supervision. Reminds you of college, doesn’t it? Like Baka to Test, Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e pits classes against each other to fight for the best scores and to avoid being expelled. While the genres indicated are comedy, school, and romance, Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e feels more like drama since it seems to take itself extremely seriously. There are no moments of comedic relief and the Kiyotaka, the main character, is too serious for his own good. Kiyotaka is the type of main character who seems very shrewd and calculating, but with everyone being this way, where is the comedy? If you are looking for comedy, don’t look here. Don’t expect a peaceful school life. With the most recent episode that came out, we can only wonder what exactly this anime aims to be because it feels like the producers want it to be more suspenseful and dramatic than we were originally led to believe.

Characters & Voice Actors List

Kiyotaka Ayanokouji

Voice Actor: Shouya Chiba

Kiyotaka is the main character of this story, but he is a forgettable male student who does not stand out. He has extremely poor communication skills, and even though he wants to make friends with his classmates, he cannot and is alone. He scored “completely average” on his admission exams, and the school views him as average when it comes to both academia and physical capabilities. It is difficult to tell what he is thinking, and there is a part of his true nature which is unknown.

Suzune Horikita

Voice Actor: Akari Kitou

Suzune is the beautiful girl that sits next to Kiyotaka in their classroom. While Kiyotaka cannot seem to make friends even though he wants to, Suzune is the polar opposite and not only feels that she does not need them, but turns down other friendship offers. She cuts off all interaction with her other classmates. Completely unable to accept that she has been relegated to the class of rejects in Class D, Suzune aims to be promoted to Class A.

Kikyou Kushida

Voice Actor: Yurika Kubo

Kikyou is the idol of Class D who boasts of her immense popularity among both boys and girls in her class. She aimed to be friends with everyone in the school, and is now not only friends with everyone in Class D, but also interacts with students from different classes and grades. Kikyou is also aggressively approaching Suzune, who flees from interaction with others, over and over again with the purpose of being friends with her but. . . ?

Airi Sakura

Voice Actor: M A O

Airi is a timid girl who dislikes standing out. She has a fantastic appearance and figure, but because she has a bad tendency to hunch over and look down, no one realizes. Airi sometimes walks around the school holding a camera. It seems that it is not for taking shots of the scenery at school.

Kei Karuizawa

Voice Actor: Ayana Taketatsu

Kei sits at the top of the hierarchy in Class D, but her personality is a bit delinquent-esque. She shares her top rank with Kikyou among the girls in her class.

Yousuke Hirata

Voice Actor: Ryouta Oosaka

Yousuke is like the leader of Class Dwho brings everyone together. He has excellent academic and physical capabilities, a sweet face, and his sense of responsibility and consideration are so perfect that it is like he walked right out of a picture. He is with no doubt the perfect boy which is why it is a mystery as to why was he assigned to Class D.

Ryousuke Kouenji

Voice Actor: Toshiki Iwasawa

Rokusuke is the highest ranked student, in both intelligence and physical prowess, that the school has seen in years, and he comes from a famous pedigree. As an individual, he has an infinite amount of potential, but he does have his faults as he is conceited and does not have an ounce of cooperativeness in him. When it comes to being assigned to Class D, he arrogantly thinks that “The academy merely failed to properly measure my abilities.”

Ken Sudou

Voice Actor: Eiji Takeuchi

Ken is a poorly-behaved student who belongs to the basketball club. He frequently gets angry, and even the little things can send him into a violent rage. Ken is the student symbol of the “rejects” of class D. His grades are also extremely poor. However, Ken’s physical capabilities are remarkably good and he is the best among the student body. Even though he is a first-year, he is viewed as someone who could be a starter on the basketball team.
